Interim Senior Financial Analyst
Employment Type: Contract (1.5 years)
Location: Oakville, ON (On-Site)
Salary: $80,000–$100,000
Industry: Energy & Infrastructure Services
Position Type: Backfill
About the Opportunity
Our client is a Canadian-owned group of energy and infrastructure companies with over 3,000 employees and operations spanning electricity distribution, gas, telecommunications, and renewables coast-to-coast. With 18–20 legal entities under a single enterprise umbrella and a track record of steady growth, the organization operates at meaningful scale — and its finance team supports a diverse, operationally complex business.
The accounting team is currently supporting a company-wide SAP ERP implementation, and this Senior Financial Analyst role exists to backfill the day-to-day finance and accounting responsibilities during that period. This is a hands-on, full-cycle accounting role — not a reporting support position — and the person stepping in needs to be ready to carry real work from day one.
Reporting into the accounting group, the SFA will own the month-end close, support treasury operations, manage bank reconciliations and AP functions, and contribute to FP&A and operational KPI reporting for one of the organization's key regulated entities.
Key Responsibilities
- Own full-cycle accounting for a regulated electricity distribution entity, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close
- Prepare and process bank reconciliations and support AP functions
- Support FP&A activities including budgeting, forecasting, monthly reporting, and management pack preparation
- Perform variance analysis and prepare operational KPI reporting, including metrics relevant to a regulated utility environment
- Support the treasury function, including setting up EFTs, managing bank accounts, and administering the corporate P-card program
- Liaise with regulatory bodies as required in connection with reporting and compliance obligations
- Assist with data collection and system-related tasks in support of the broader ERP implementation project
- Occasionally handle physical banking tasks as required (e.g. cheque delivery)
What You Bring
- CPA designation or active pursuit, with solid full-cycle accounting experience — this role is GL-first, and hands-on ownership of the close is non-negotiable
- Experience in a multi-entity or operationally complex environment; exposure to a regulated utility or public sector entity is an asset
- Comfortable with treasury functions — EFTs, bank management, and corporate card programs are part of the day-to-day
- A self-starter who can find information independently, navigate ambiguity, and figure things out without waiting to be directed
- Eager and ambitious — you want to do more than what's in front of you and you show it
- Strong attention to detail and a track record of meeting close deadlines consistently
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with Great Plains, SAP, or similar ERP environments
- Experience with FP&A tools or reporting platforms (Prophix or similar)
- Background in electricity distribution, utilities, or a regulated industry
- Exposure to regulatory reporting or compliance submissions
