Interim FP&A Manager
Clarity Recruitment • Oakville, Ontario • Full Time
Posted on Tue, Jun 9, 2026
Employment Type: Contract (2 years)
Location: Oakville, ON (On-Site)
Salary: $120,000–$130,000
Industry: Energy & Infrastructure Services
Position Type: New Role
About the Opportunity
Our client is a Canadian-owned group of energy and infrastructure companies serving the electricity distribution, gas, telecommunications, and renewables sectors. With over 3,000 employees and operations coast-to-coast, the organization has grown significantly over the past decade through a combination of organic expansion and acquisition — now spanning 18–20 legal entities across Canada. The business is well-capitalized, municipally backed, and in active growth mode.
The finance function is at an inflection point. The organization is undergoing a company-wide ERP implementation — a multi-year, phased rollout across its group of companies — and the full-time accounting team has been deployed to support that project. This newly created Manager, FP&A role exists to fill the gap: bringing dedicated FP&A leadership to a function that has historically sat inside the accounting team, without the bandwidth or structure to go deep.
This is a genuine greenfield opportunity. There is no existing FP&A team, no established planning process, and no documentation to inherit — which means the person stepping into this role will build the function from scratch, set the standard for how the planning cycle runs, and leave something durable behind. Reporting to senior finance leadership, the Manager will lead budgeting and forecasting across the group, drive variance analysis and executive reporting, and serve as the primary finance liaison for the ERP implementation.
For a senior FP&A professional who wants ownership, scope, and the chance to build something that matters — this is a high-impact two-year contract with real visibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting cycle across 18–20 legal entities, including facilitation of planning sessions with business leaders and seasonal spread and multi-year trend analysis
- Own monthly and quarterly variance analysis — actuals to budget — and prepare executive reporting and management packs for senior leadership
- Build and document FP&A processes, templates, and planning frameworks from the ground up, creating sustainable infrastructure for the function going forward
- Develop driver-based financial models and dashboards, with a focus on KPIs including profit margins, cash flow, and debt covenant tracking
- Incorporate macroeconomic analysis relevant to the business into planning assumptions and executive materials
- Act as the primary finance liaison for the SAP ERP implementation, coordinating with the project team and ensuring FP&A requirements are captured and delivered
- Work closely with the Controller and cross-functional accounting resources to support month-end and quarter-end reporting as required
- Consolidate financial results across the group of companies, identifying trends and surfacing issues proactively to senior leadership
- Coordinate with and potentially mentor junior finance resources during the contract term
What You Bring
- CPA designation with significant post-designation FP&A experience, ideally across a multi-entity or decentralized business environment
- Demonstrated ability to build and lead a budgeting and forecasting process — not just support one — including facilitation with business unit leaders and executive reporting
- Strong financial modeling skills; driver-based planning and consolidation across multiple legal entities is a clear asset
- Comfortable operating in an environment with limited process documentation — you can assess what's missing, build what's needed, and move quickly
- Experience with Prophix or comparable CPM/FP&A tools; familiarity with Great Plains or SAP considered an asset
- A self-starter who figures things out independently, flags issues early, and doesn't need a lot of hand-holding to produce high-quality work
- Collaborative by nature — able to work across accounting, operations, and executive stakeholders to get the numbers right
Nice to Have
- SAP implementation experience or involvement in an ERP transition
- Background in energy, utilities, infrastructure, or a regulated environment
- Experience managing or mentoring junior finance staff
