Interim Controller
Clarity Recruitment • Vaughan, Ontario • Full Time
Posted on Wed, May 27, 2026
Employment Type: Contract (to be confirmed)
Location: Vaughn, ON (3 days in office)
Industry: Manufacturing (ESG / recycled consumer products)
Position Type: Existing Vacancy
About the Opportunity
Our client is an ESG-focused manufacturer that transforms recycled plastics and tires into consumer products. They are seeking an Interim Controller to provide immediate leadership and stability during a period of transition, with a strong emphasis on cash visibility, bank reporting, and controllership fundamentals. Reporting into the Head of FP&A and partnering closely with the finance leadership team, this interim leader will step into a complex, multi-entity environment (Canada, Poland, and a growing U.S. entity) with a sizeable accounting team and an active agenda across operations and systems.
This is a high-impact opportunity to help strengthen the monthly close, introduce stronger review and controls, support lender covenant reporting, and bring a forward-facing, collaborative leadership style to a team that’s ready for more structure and connection.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide interim controllership leadership across the business during the current Controller’s notice period, ensuring a smooth knowledge transfer and continuity through June 30, 2026
- Own/oversee bank reporting, debt covenant compliance, and monthly lender deliverables (including MD&A-style reporting and ratio/covenant calculations)
- Support cash flow management and short-term liquidity execution (prioritization of payments, collections partnership, and cash forecasting maintenance once the in-flight consulting support transitions out)
- Partner with FP&A and leadership to improve the monthly close timeline and quality, including identifying bottlenecks and implementing practical process improvements
- Strengthen review routines and controllership governance (e.g., improved financial statement review, variance analysis readiness, and escalation of issues)
- Oversee and/or review manual consolidations and eliminations (including cross-ERP consolidation between Microsoft-based operations and Poland’s Comarch environment)
- Assess the current finance org design and provide recommendations on the future-state structure (e.g., Controller scope vs. potential Treasury Manager split)
- Provide leadership and coaching to a multi-layered accounting organization (including AR/AP teams and accountants supporting month-end, fixed assets, and other functions)
- Bring a manufacturing lens to core accounting areas (e.g., costing/absorption concepts, operational finance partnership, and identifying technical gaps)
- Support finance leadership with an experienced perspective on transfer pricing and consolidation set-up, particularly with increased U.S. entity activity
What You Bring
- Demonstrated experience in a Controller / senior controllership capacity within a manufacturing environment
- Exposure to cash-focused operations, including lender reporting, covenant compliance, and/or debt-related reporting requirements
- Strong technical accounting foundation and experience operating in environments with external audit expectations and a controls mindset
- Experience leading and developing teams across core accounting functions (AR, AP, month-end, fixed assets, etc.)
- Comfort working in multi-entity / multi-country structures, including consolidation and elimination concepts
- Strong process orientation with the ability to identify friction points and drive improvements (especially related to close speed and close quality)
- Ability to operate as a change agent with a forward-facing, collaborative leadership style (influencing across a siloed environment)
- Comfortable in spreadsheet-heavy environments and navigating cross-system processes (including scenarios where consolidation is performed outside the ERP)
