Cherry Bekaert Recruiting & Staffing is partnering with a well-established real estate organization in Washington, DC, to identify an experienced Interim CFO to provide financial leadership during a critical executive transition. This engagement offers the opportunity to step into a highly visible leadership role immediately, with the potential to transition into a permanent position for the right candidate.
Position Overview
The Interim CFO will serve as the senior financial leader for the organization, working closely with executive leadership, the Board of Directors, and external service providers. The ideal candidate will bring strong accounting and financial management expertise, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to quickly assess operations and drive stability during a period of change.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the organization's finance and accounting functions during the transition period.
- Review financial results and present financial reporting to executive leadership and the Board.
- Lead budgeting and forecasting activities, including ownership of the upcoming annual budget process.
- Partner closely with executive leadership and Board members on strategic financial matters.
- Manage relationships with outsourced accounting, tax, audit, insurance, and investment partners.
- Evaluate financial processes and recommend enhancements where appropriate.
- Ensure continuity of operations and provide leadership throughout the transition.
- Prior experience as a CFO, Controller, Director of Finance, or similar senior financial leadership role.
- Strong background in accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and financial management.
- Real estate industry experience required; commercial real estate experience is acceptable.
- Experience presenting financial information to executive teams and Boards of Directors.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities with the capacity to quickly establish credibility and build relationships.
- Advanced Excel skills required.
- CPA preferred but not required.
- Immediate start preferred.
- Expected engagement length of approximately 2–4 months.
- Potential for permanent employment based on performance and organizational fit.
- On-site position in Washington, DC, with significant in-office presence expected, particularly during the transition period.
