Job Description
In compliance with the requirements of Administrative Procedures, Minnesota Management and Budget and Minnesota State policies and regulations, state and federal laws, and collective bargaining agreement and personnel plan provisions, incumbent provides paraprofessional Human Resources (HR) services at Minnesota State University, Mankato by administering support and work. Under limited supervision, this position will perform functions related to labor relations and personnel matters, determine resolution for detailed and complex HR matters, and direct and administer all aspects of the university’s student employee payroll program.
This position is considered confidential as defined by M.S. 13.37 as it accesses and utilizes information pertaining to labor relations (as defined by subd. 1, and paragraph c), serves as a resource to management for labor relations information, provides assistance and information for use in the development of a strike plan.
Minimum Qualifications
- Two (2) years of HR paraprofessional experience or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- o Associates can substitute for 6 months experience
- o BA/BS can substitute for 1 year experience
- o Masters can substitute for 1.5 years of experience
- Knowledge of employment laws such as: FLSA, ESST, FMLA, MPL, ACA, etc.
- Proficient with technology, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing software.
- Strong customer service and human relations skills sufficient to interact with courtesy, respect, and professionalism with individuals of varying educational levels and diverse backgrounds.
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and organization skills, with the ability to refocus and concentrate on complicated issues with accuracy, in an environment with frequent interruptions.
Preferred Qualification
- Degree in human resources, accounting, or related field.
- Experience working with the university’s, Minnesota State’s, and Minnesota Management and Budget’s policies and procedures and software systems, including Employee Setup, Workday, FWM, SCUPPS, and SEMA4 sufficient to process transactions and answer routine questions in the Minnesota State system.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
- Experience in handling confidential and sensitive information with utmost discretion.
- Math skills sufficient to calculate and/or verify pay, payroll related transactions, and other related activities.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team environment to maintain confidential information, research topics and compile and audit data, and identify and correct errors
