We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Grant Accountant to support the financial operations of one of our well-established clients in the Sacramento region. This role is ideal for an accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys managing multiple funding streams, and brings strong analytical, reconciliation, and communication skills.
The Grant Accountant will play a key role in maintaining accurate grant-related financial records, ensuring compliance with funding requirements, and supporting program and finance leaders with timely reporting. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful operational improvements while supporting a collaborative, team-centered department. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity, and our client offers a generous benefits package.
• Pay: - $35-38/Hr. (DOE)
• Role Type: Contract to Hire
• 100% onsite in downtown Sacramento
• 9/8/80 alternate work schedule with every other Friday off

Responsibilities
- Manage grant-related accounting, journal entries, and month-end close activities.
- Reconcile grant funding accounts, program budgets, and balance sheet schedules.
- Track grant expenditures, prepare drawdowns, and ensure compliance with funding requirements.
- Prepare grant financial reports and reimbursement packages for federal, state, and private funders.
- Review and code invoices with proper GL allocation and grant documentation.
- Monitor restricted funds, grant budgets, cost allocations, and supporting schedules.
- Assist with annual budgets, forecasts, audits, and grant compliance reviews.
- Partner with program and finance teams to provide timely financial insights.
- Support process improvements and SOP development within the grants and accounting function.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3–5+ years of accounting experience; nonprofit or grant-funded experience preferred.
- Strong Excel skills and proficiency with accounting systems (MIP, Intacct, NetSuite, QuickBooks, etc.).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated reliability, efficiency, and commitment to high-quality work.
