About the Role
The GL accountant is responsible for the overall accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of accounting transactions within the assigned billing/accounting systems. Additionally, the GL accountant will be responsible for maintaining carrier commissions processing and related royalty payments.
The Day-to-Day
GL Responsibilities
- Prepare journal entries for revenue, accruals, and reconciliation.
- Assist in audits and monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings.
- Backup for daily bank entries recording.
- Create monthly administrative corporate invoices for all associations.
- Create monthly claims processing invoices to carriers.
- Monthly balance sheet reconciliations for assigned GL accounts.
- Monthly MOAA marketing allowance tracking and reconciliation.
- Monthly marketing recoverables invoice creation and submission to carriers.
- System-specific monthly bank reconciliation.
- Assists with monthly closing process including financial analysis.
- Collaborating with other departments to complete accurate records and provide accounting support.
- Undertake ad hoc projects as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Commissions Responsibilities
- Maintain daily commission log.
- Collaborate and assist team members (onshore and offshore) to ensure accurate and timely commission processing.
- Establish/update billing system mapping for new carrier programs.
- Review client contracts and maintain accurate royalty structure.
- Research and reconcile commission discrepancies.
- Prepare production and reports requested by other teams, including Finance and Client Management.
- Prefer a Bachelor degree in Accounting or another relevant field of study.
- 2-6 years’ experience working as a GL accountant.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Effective problem-solving skills to identify and correct financial discrepancies.
- Technical accounting and software skills.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
- Understanding of accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to work in the Urbandale, IA office 4 days of the week, with Friday's being remote.
