General Accountant

Purpose: Perform general accounting duties and complete the month-end cycle for multiple TMI Group companies, as well as the consolidated financial statements for TMI Group, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in process and reporting capabilities. Act as point of contact for budget holders in the business, providing information and insights into their spending.

Responsibilities Include:

Financial Reporting

Support the Manager, Finance and Costing Manager in coordinating month-end close for TMI and related companies Prepare entity level financial statements for TMI and related companies, as well as departmental reporting to support business/management requirements Prepare accurate and timely monthly lead sheets, ensuring complete year-end working papers to support audit(s) Serve as a contact for year-end audit(s) and any governmental/statutory audits (e.g., HST, VAT, etc.)

Regulatory and Compliance

Assist with daily cash management for all TMI related companies, including bank reconciliations Ensure new product development project costs are recorded accurately for the purpose of internal reporting, as well as SR&ED tax filing Manage sales tax accounting and reporting for TMI and related companies, ensuring timely filing of returns and payments as required in each of the relevant jurisdictions Assist with the preparation of various statutory reporting for Statistics Canada, etc.

Analysis and Planning

Analyze expense variances to budget and previous year, monthly financial results, and prepare monthly management reports to support the same Provide support to functional departments on questions related to expenses Build, maintain and distribute monthly reports for the business that accurately and effectively convey financial performance

Health and Safety

Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation, including the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

Degree in Finance or a related field of study 3-5 years of experience in general accounting or finance function Professional Accounting Designation, eg. CPA, or working towards designation is an asset Computer literate with: Advanced experience in MS Excel (spreadsheets) Basic to intermediate experience in MS Dynamics/Great Plains (ERP) an asset Experience completing various accounting tasks including financial statement preparation, government remittances, accounts payable processing, accounts receivable processing, and general ledger processing Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills Ability to work independently and as a part of a team Ability to meet deadlines
