Description
The Accounting Professor is a full-time, face-to-face faculty member responsible for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate accounting courses, advising students, participating in curriculum development, engaging in scholarly and professional activities, and contributing to departmental, institutional, and community service. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching, a commitment to student success, and the ability to support the mission and goals of the institution.
Job Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Teaching
Teach a full-time course load of accounting and business-related courses in a face-to-face classroom environment.
Prepare and deliver engaging lectures, discussions, case studies, and experiential learning activities.
Develop and maintain course syllabi, instructional materials, assessments, and grading procedures.
Utilize current accounting technologies and software applications to enhance student learning.
Assess student learning outcomes and implement continuous improvement strategies.
Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and academic records.
Student Advising and Mentorship
Advise and mentor students regarding academic progress, career opportunities, internships, and professional development.
Maintain regularly scheduled office hours and provide academic support to students.
Participate in student recruitment, retention, and graduation initiatives.
Curriculum Development and Assessment
Participate in the review, development, and revision of accounting curriculum.
Assist in maintaining program quality and ensuring alignment with accreditation standards.
Contribute to assessment activities and continuous improvement efforts.
Scholarship and Professional Development
Maintain professional qualifications through scholarly activities, research, publications, presentations, certifications, and professional engagement.
Stay current with developments in accounting, taxation, auditing, financial reporting, and business practices.
Service
Serve on departmental, institutional, and community committees as assigned.
Participate in faculty meetings, commencement ceremonies, advising events, and other institutional activities.
Support accreditation and strategic planning initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in Accounting, Master of Accountancy, MBA with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Accounting, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.
Demonstrated ability to teach accounting courses effectively.
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Commitment to student-centered teaching and learning.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate (Ph.D., DBA, or equivalent) in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
Previous college or university teaching experience.
Experience with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle).
Experience with accounting software and data analytics tools.
Physical Requirements
Ability to teach in a traditional classroom setting.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and community stakeholders.
Ability to perform duties associated with classroom instruction, advising, and campus service activities.
