Financial Analyst

The Financial Analyst is a finance professional with non-profit passion and experience. The Financial Analyst supports the budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis functions that are critical to realizing the mission and vision of Mary’s Place. As a key member of the Finance Team, the Financial Analyst must possess a commitment to Mary’s Place’s mission, values, and culture. 

In collaboration with the Controller and Chief Financial Officer, the Financial Analyst is responsible for supporting the annual budgeting process, financial forecasting, and the analysis and reporting of financial and grant data. The Financial Analyst develops financial models, monitors budget-to-actual performance, and translates financial data into clear, actionable insights for program and organizational leadership. The Financial Analyst helps ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and with grant and regulatory requirements. The Financial Analyst will report to the Controller.

This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position. The salary range for this role is $90,000 to $100,000 DOE/yearly. The position is hybrid with daytime/weekday hours, with an in-office location at our administrative offices ("the Hub") in South Lake Union. 

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Support the annual budgeting and planning process, including preparing budget templates, consolidating departmental and program budgets, and assisting leadership in developing organizational budgets 
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial analyses, including budget-to-actual comparisons, variance analysis, and cash flow projections; identify, explain, and help correct variances as appropriate 
• Develop and maintain financial models and forecasts to support organizational planning, program sustainability, and long-range financial strategy 
• Analyze grant and program budgets; monitor spending against grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period and flag potential over- or under-spending 
• Analyze reimbursement-based grants to ensure that awarded funds are fully spent down and drawn down within the grant/fund period; track spend rates, prepare and support timely reimbursement requests, and proactively identify at-risk or unspent balances so that no eligible funding is left unclaimed or forfeited 
• Prepare financial reporting materials and schedules for government, corporate, and foundation grants in coordination with the Development and Program teams 
• Build and maintain reports, dashboards, and data visualizations that translate financial data into clear insights for finance, program, and senior leadership 
• Support the preparation of financial statements and board- and finance committee-specific reporting 
• Assist with audit readiness by preparing and updating supporting schedules and analyses 
• Maintain the accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality of financial data and supporting documentation 
• Partner with Program and Development staff to support accurate budgeting, reporting, and accounting for grants and programs

Qualifications:

• The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field and at least 2-4 years of professional experience in financial analysis, budgeting, or accounting 
• Prior experience in non-profit finance, including fund and grant budgeting, monitoring, and compliance 
• Prior experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting procedures in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) 
• Understanding of grant budgets and restricted funding, including the analysis and reporting of government, corporate, and foundation grants 
• Technology savvy with advanced knowledge of accounting, budgeting, and reporting software and the ability to work with financial data across multiple systems 

Skills:

• Expert level Excel skills working with complex workbooks using formulas, macros, and pivot tables to build financial models and analyses 
• Strong analytical and critical thinking capabilities, with the ability to translate financial data into clear, actionable insights 
• Compelling communication and influencing skills, a strong work ethic, impeccable integrity, positive attitude, and strong commitment to working collaboratively 
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 environment including Teams, SharePoint and Outlook 
• Protect the confidentiality of sensitive information by learning and following all relevant policies and protocols and using sound judgment in the handling and sharing of that information 
• Highly motivated, resourceful, flexible, and possesses a positive attitude 
• Effective communication and documentation skills 
• Exhibits compassion and empathy; works well with people from all ethnic, social, economic, and sexual orientation backgrounds

• Frequently required to stand, walk, use fingers, hands, and arms 
• Ability to occasionally push, pull, lift, and/or carry supplies up to 25 pounds 
• Work takes place in a social services environment where extended periods of sitting, working on a computer, walking to various work areas, going up and down stairs, and standing are required 
• Travel to program sites and meetings outside the site and around the county are necessary 
• Ability to work in an environment where there may be animals present, including dogs
