Location: 501 McNicoll Ave Toronto, ON (fully onsite)
Position: Financial Analyst
Job Summaryâ¯
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Periodic rolling forecasts, partnering with department and plant leaders to build, challenge, and consolidate their submissions.
- Prepare the monthly management reporting package, including actual-versus-budget and actual-versus-forecast variance analysis with clear, written explanations of the drivers behind each variance.
- Analyze manufacturing performance — standard cost versus actual, material and labor usage, overhead absorption, scrap and yield, inventory levels, and COGS — and translate the results into actionable recommendations.
- Build and maintain product-, customer-, and plant-level margin analysis, including price / volume / mix bridges explaining period-over-period changes.
- Develop financial models and business cases for capital expenditure requests, pricing decisions, cost-reduction initiatives, and other investments; track realized results against the approved business case.
- Perform scenario and sensitivity analysis to quantify the financial impact of operational, commercial, and macroeconomic changes.
- Support cash flow forecasting and working capital analysis across the U.S. and Canadian entities.
- Build and maintain KPI dashboards and reporting tools that give operations and commercial leaders self-service visibility into their results.
- Deliver ad-hoc analysis for the Controller, CFO, and executive leadership, including board and lender reporting support.
Accounting & Month-End Close
- Calculate monthly commissions for U.S. and Canadian sales representatives, ensuring accuracy against approved commission plans and resolving discrepancies with Sales leadership.
- Maintain schedules for accrued liabilities, prepaid expenses, and asset amortization, and prepare and post the related journal entries.
- Accrue monthly Capital One expenses and process actual expenses once all submissions have been received.
- Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts and assist with month-end closing activities to meet the published close calendar.
- Prepare the trial balance in both CAD and USD, ensuring accurate currency translation and resolution of any out-of-balance conditions.
- Reconcile intercompany accounts monthly between the U.S. and Canadian entities and maintain complete supporting documentation and record keeping.
- Support the year-end audit by preparing schedules, pulling supporting documentation, and responding to auditor requests.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures; identify gaps and recommend updates where processes have changed.
- Provide ad-hoc assistance on other finance projects and serve as backup for other members of the accounting and finance team.
Process & Business Partnership
- Identify opportunities to automate, standardize, and shorten recurring reporting and close activities, and help implement the improvements.
- Maintain and improve the integrity of financial data in Sage 300 and related reporting tools.
- Support internal control activities and help document control procedures for assigned processes.
- Act as a trusted finance partner to operations, sales, and supply chain — translating financial results into language non-finance stakeholders can act on.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Accounting background
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical ability — comfortable building and auditing complex models, pivot tables, and lookups against large data sets.
- Working knowledge of ERP systems and month-end close processes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain financial results to non-financial audiences.
- A good team player who collaborates well across departments and supports colleagues during peak periods.
- Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
- Experience with Sage 300 is a strong asset.
- CPA, CMA, or MBA (complete or near completion).
- Experience with multi-entity, multi-currency (USD / CAD) reporting and cross-border intercompany activity.
- Cost accounting or standard costing experience in a make-to-order or make-to-stock manufacturing setting.
- Experience with business intelligence or reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- On-site role based at a manufacturing facility; regular presence on the plant floor to understand operations and validate cost data.
- Standard office environment with periodic exposure to plant conditions; appropriate personal protective equipment is provided and required in production areas.
- Extended hours may be required during month-end and year-end close, the annual budget cycle, and the external audit.
- Occasional travel between U.S. and Canadian locations may be required.
