Financial Accountant

The Financial Accountant plays a key role in maintaining the financial integrity of multiple properties by managing day-to-day accounting operations. This role is responsible for monitoring accounts payable and receivable, performing reconciliations, posting journal entries, and preparing accurate and timely financial statements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and has strong analytical skills including excel proficiency, with the ability to collaborate effectively with Accounting peers, Asset Managers, and Property Managers and communicate financial information clearly.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform monthly bank reconciliations and process deposit receipts
• Collaborate with Property Managers to ensure accurate financial reporting
• Monitor revenue and expense activity, identifying and correcting discrepancies
• Post general ledger journal entries and maintain supporting documentation
• Reconcile account balances to supporting schedules
• Prepare and deliver monthly financial statements for multiple properties
• Review and calculate Common Area Maintenance (CAM) reconciliations 
• Review and enter leases, calculate commercial tenant billing 
• Communicate financial statement results to property owners
• Prepare and submit draw requests in accordance with funding guidelines

Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 1-2 years of experience in accounting, preferably in property management or real estate
• Experience preparing financial statements 
• Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting principles
• Proficient in accounting software and solid Microsoft Excel skills
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities and critical thinking 
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Yardi property management software is a plus 
• Familiarity with real estate accounting

Working Conditions

• Standard office environment, open cubicles, quiet to moderate noise levels
• Hybrid work environment, minimum 3 days in office at Brookfield HQ
