POSITION SUMMARY
The Finance Manager is a member of the Operations team and plays a key role in keeping TakeAction Minnesota’s finances accurate, organized, and running smoothly. This role manages financial work for the organization and its fiscally sponsored projects, and serves as a main point of contact between those projects and TakeAction Minnesota. As part of the Operations team, the Finance Manager helps build the systems and infrastructure that strengthen our organizing, support our base-building teams, and enable them to win campaigns.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS —Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Financial operations & accounting

Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, journal entries, and maintenance of financial records

Lead the monthly close process, including time and expense allocations, reconciliations, adjustments, and reporting

Ensure accurate financial files and documentation

Manage processing needed for 1099 reporting

Monitor organizational cash flow and support for short-term cash planning

Develop and manage cash projections for fiscally sponsored projects

Ensure financial data for fiscally sponsored projects is accurate and up to date

Collaborate with team members to improve financial systems and processes to increase efficiency

Develop grant and contract budgets in partnership with program and/or development teams

Prepare regular financial reports for internal teams and external funders

Review budget-to-actual reports with program teams on a quarterly basis

Ensure accurate expense coding and tracking across the organization

Support financial planning and scenario analysis for leadership decisions

Lead day-to-day audit preparation process, including organizing documentions, reconciliations, and auditor requests, in partnership with the Finance Director

Manage day-to-day campaign finance reporting and compliance tasks

Ensure required filings and reports are completed accurately and on time

Support compliance with organizational financial policies and legal requirements

Escalate issues and work closely with the Finance Director, who provides overall oversight

Help staff understand budgets, financial reports, and spending decisions

Support teams in tracking and managing their budgets and expenses correctly

Partner with staff across teams to improve financial tracking and reporting systems

Provide general training and guidance on financial procedures and best practices
Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational and financial operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Experience and Qualifications

Experience managing day-to-day accounting and financial operations in a nonprofit or multi-entity organization

Strong understanding of nonprofit budgeting, grant management, and financial reporting

Experience with month-end close processes, including reconciliations and journal entries

Ability to manage multiple budgets and track finances across programs or entities
-
Strong attention to detail and commitment to financial accuracy and compliance
-
Experience preparing financial reports for both internal teams and external funders
-
Ability to explain financial information clearly to non-financial staff
-
Experience supporting audits and working with external auditors or accountants
-
Familiarity with nonprofit financial systems and tools, specifically Sage Intacct
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office environment which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes, camera equipment, or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage. This role may occasionally require working outside typical business hours, including evenings or weekends, especially during peak campaign moments or events.
SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary is commensurate with experience and starts at $75,000. Category: Manager 2

Full-time employment is defined as working 64 or more hours per pay period.

This position reports directly to the Finance Director.

This position is in our Saint Paul, MN office but will be required to occasionally travel. In response to COVID-19, all employees are resourced to work from home or under a hybrid model as needed.
