The Finance Manager is a strategic financial leader responsible for overseeing the organisation's financial management, reporting, compliance, and planning functions. The role combines advanced financial expertise with people leadership to drive sustainable financial performance, support strategic decision-making, and ensure strong governance across the organisation.
As a trusted advisor to the CEO, Executive Leadership Team, Board, and Financial Audit & Risk Management Committee (FARM), the Senior Finance Manager transforms financial information into actionable business insights while leading a high-performing finance team and maintaining robust financial controls.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Financial Leadership
- Lead the organisation's financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting functions.
- Develop long-term financial strategies that support organisational goals and sustainability.
- Provide strategic financial advice and insights to the CEO, Executive Leadership Team, and Board.
- Prepare financial scenarios, business cases, and modelling to support investment and operational decisions.
- Monitor organisational performance and identify opportunities to improve financial outcomes.
Financial Management and Reporting
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and regulatory requirements.
- Lead budget development and financial forecasting processes.
- Conduct detailed variance analysis and provide recommendations to improve performance.
- Develop meaningful financial and operational performance indicators and dashboards.
Team Leadership and Capability Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team to ensure high performance and continuous improvement.
- Establish clear performance expectations and undertake regular performance reviews.
- Support the professional development and succession planning of finance staff.
- Promote a positive, collaborative, and customer-focused culture within the finance function.
Governance, Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB), Australian Taxation Office (ATO) requirements, and relevant legislation affecting not-for-profit organisations.
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of effective internal financial controls.
- Coordinate external audit activities and manage audit recommendations.
- Support the Financial Audit & Risk Management Committee through high-quality reporting and advice.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate financial and operational risks.
Process Improvement and Systems Management
- Lead initiatives to improve financial systems, processes, and reporting capabilities.
- Drive automation and efficiency across finance operations.
- Develop, review, and maintain financial policies, procedures, and delegations.
- Leverage technology, data analytics, and AI-enabled tools to improve decision-making and operational efficiency.
Business Partnership
- Partner with leaders across the organisation to provide financial advice and support decision-making.
- Support funding applications, grant acquittals, and contract management activities.
- Provide commercial and financial analysis for new programs, services, and growth opportunities.
- Assist with organisational projects, due diligence activities, and strategic initiatives.
Selection Criteria
Essential
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related discipline.
- CPA Australia or Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification.
- Minimum 5–10 years' progressive financial management experience, including leadership of finance teams.
- Demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and financial modelling.
- Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, particularly within the not-for-profit sector.
- Sound understanding of ATO compliance obligations and financial governance requirements.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Xero, and contemporary financial technologies, including AI-enabled tools.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing Board-level reports.
Desirable
- MBA, Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.
- Experience working within the community services or not-for-profit sector.
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, or similar business intelligence platforms.
- Formal project management qualifications or demonstrated project leadership experience.
- Experience managing complex funding arrangements, grants, or government contracts.

Remuneration - Salary range $140,000 -$160,000 depending on skills and experience. Plus 12% superannuation
