Job Summary:
The School District Accountant performs professional accounting and financial work in support of the district's fiscal operations. This includes maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, assisting with budgeting, ensuring compliance with Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) regulations and other applicable regulations, and supporting annual audits. The role requires strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills and familiarity with Pennsylvania school district accounting practices. Performs related work as required and consistent with the job description. Coordinates this work with others and provides direction to business office staff.
Job Goal:
To assist the Chief Finance and Operations Officer and the Director of Business Administration in administering the fiscal affairs of the district.

Qualifications:
- A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is preferred.
- A minimum formal educational background for a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting is required.
- A minimum of three to five years of accounting experience. Public educational systems experience and familiarity with government fund accounting is preferred.
- Appropriate and acceptable alternatives to these qualifications may be considered.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain the district's general ledger and ensure proper coding of revenues and expenditures.
- Prepare and post journal entries and balance subsidiary ledgers.
- Assist with monitoring grant funds and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local requirements (Title I, IDEA, PCCD, etc.).
- Assist with the compiling and filing of various reports with governing agencies (PDE, State, Federal, etc.)
- Support the annual financial audit by preparing schedules, supporting documentation, and responding to auditor inquiries.
- Assist in payroll and accounts payable as needed.
- Participate in the development and implementation of financial procedures and internal controls.
- Reviews and prepares budgets and fiscal analysis, statements, and reports that are clear and accurate.
- Ensure the accurate and timely deposit of district funds.
- Reconciles cash, all fund bank statements (investments, student activity, capital projects, payroll, all general, food service), general ledger accounts.
- Prepares and/or coordinates the preparation of monthly school board financial reports, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll reports and analysis as required and needed.
- Understands and carries out oral and written directions.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative working relations with others during work.
- Assist with the preparation and distribution of Real Estate, Per Capita and Occupation tax bills.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Chief Finance and Operations Officer, Director of Business Administration, and or Superintendent.
