TITLE: District Accountant/Internal Auditor
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Assists the Accounting Supervisor with the daily operations of the Finance department ensuring compliance with District, Federal and State regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education and/or experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance or related field or four (4) years of accounting or related field experience in a governmental environment.
- State of Arizona Identity Verified (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees and maintain the accounting for district capital assets
- Coordinates and assists with the physical inventory, updates and reconciles fixed asset records, and prepares depreciation schedules.
- Assists with Student Activity funds.
- Prepares journal entries (budget and adjusting).
- Reconciles bank accounts.
- Prepares quarterly and annual Medicaid claim reports.
- Assists with accounts receivable and revenues.
- Provides technical and budgetary assistance to Finance staff, schools and departments.
- Performs internal and special audits as needed.
- Reviews and approves accounting transactions and payroll codes.
- Assists with the bond and capital override budgets.
- Assists with coordinating the independent audit.
- Meets with Accounting Supervisor on issues pertinent to the office.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
- Knowledge of complex accounting and financial methods, practices and procedures
- Knowledge of computer software utilized in financial, budgetary and accounting procedures
- Knowledge of management and administrative practices and procedures
- Knowledge of Federal, state and District rules, regulations, practices and procedures related to school finance and accounting
- Knowledge of file maintenance/record keeping practices and procedures
- Knowledge of customer service/public relations practices and procedures
- Skill utilizing effective verbal and written communication in the development and presentation of reports, budgets, and on the job staff training
- Skill utilizing a variety of computer databases to research and prepare reports and budgets
- Skill assigning, prioritizing and reviewing work
- Skill utilizing customer service techniques in responding to inquiries and complaints
- Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Fast paced general office environment.
May need to drive to other sites to complete work assignments.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Position may require climbing, stooping, standing, walking, lifting, keyboarding, talking, hearing, and eyestrain, with repetitive motions.
Repetitive motion and eye strain through extensive utilization of computer hardware and software.
Position may require lifting, pushing, pulling or carrying furniture, equipment and supplies weighing up to 60 pounds.
May be required to travel within the district as well as out-of-district’s sites.
