Overview
Regent is a global private holding company focused on acquiring businesses and realizing exponential growth through operational improvements and strategic capital deployment. Since its inception, Regent has successfully acquired businesses from leading Fortune 500 and large-cap companies. Our investments span the globe and operate across a wide array of industry verticals, with a significant presence across the United States and Europe.
We are seeking a Director, Tax to act as the in-house tax advisor to Regent's Chairman. The role sits alongside, but is distinct from, Regent's business tax function and is centered on protecting and optimizing the Chairman's personal tax position across a complex, multi-entity holding structure, with a focus on individual tax planning, compliance, and reporting. This is a five-days-per-week, in-office role based in Beverly Hills, CA.
Responsibilities
- Own and manage all aspects of the Chairman's personal tax position, including planning, compliance, reporting, and coordination with outside advisors
- Act as an independent advocate for the Chairman's personal tax interests, proactively identifying and raising unintended personal tax exposure that may arise from business decisions, transactions, or structuring recommendations
- Serve as the primary control point between the Chairman's personal tax considerations and the broader business, ensuring personal tax implications are surfaced and addressed before decisions are finalized
- Keep the Group Head of Tax sighted on shareholder-level tax positions that interact with upcoming transactions, entity structuring, and business decisions that may carry personal tax consequences for the Chairman
- Partner closely with Regent’s Senior Manager – International Tax (Americas) and EU/APAC tax resources to keep on top of business developments across the portfolio.
- Develop and maintain a highly organized, disciplined personal tax function, including clear processes, calendars, and documentation for filings, estimated payments, and recurring compliance obligations
- Coordinate with external tax advisors, estate planning counsel, and other outside professionals supporting the Chairman's personal tax and wealth planning matters
- Business partner across Regent's functions — legal, finance and accounting, treasury, HR and operations — to ensure the relevant non-tax processes are properly embedded into personal tax compliance processes and obligations.
- Monitor changes in tax law and regulation relevant to high-net-worth individuals and complex personal holding structures, advising the Chairman proactively on planning opportunities and risks
- Prepare clear, organized reporting and briefings for the Chairman on personal tax position, upcoming deadlines, and key decisions requiring his input
- Maintain strict confidentiality and discretion in handling all matters related to the Chairman's personal financial and tax affairs
Requirements
- Significant experience in personal tax planning and compliance for high-net-worth individuals, family offices, or similarly complex personal tax structures
- Big Four background strongly preferred, with direct experience advising high-net-worth individuals or family office clients
- CPA required; advanced degree (MST, JD, or LLM in Taxation) a meaningful plus
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently and exercise sound, candid judgment — comfortable advocating for a single principal's interests, including where that may mean respectfully challenging business leadership
- Highly organized and process-oriented, with a proven ability to bring structure, discipline, and rigor to a function
- Strong technical knowledge across individual, partnership, and complex pass-through tax matters relevant to a diversified personal holding structure
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust quickly and work directly with a principal, firm leadership, and outside advisors
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential personal financial matters
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, principal-facing environment with competing priorities and limited precedent
For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in applicable jurisdictions, Regent, L.P. includes a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This accounts for the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to business or organizational needs, skill sets, experience and training, and certifications.
A reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role is $200,000–$260,000 base salary plus bonus.
