The Nunavut Housing Corporation (NHC) is an agency of the Government of Nunavut which serves the housing needs of one of the fastest growing and youngest populations in Canada. NHC’s mandate is to create, co-ordinate, and administer housing programs in order to provide fair access to a range of affordable housing options to families and individuals in Nunavut. NHC has recently launched The Nunavut 3000 Strategy, (www.igluliuqatigiingniq.ca) which is a collaboration between the government and its partners to deliver 3,000 new units across the housing continuum by 2030.

Reporting to the VP Infrastructure, the Director, Real Property and Procurement plays a key role in turning strategy into action by ensuring land, assets, and procurement processes are aligned to support housing delivery across the territory. Grounded in strong relational accountability, this role builds trusted partnerships with communities, Local Housing Organizations, government departments, and stakeholders while stewarding public resources responsibly. Through clear strategic direction, the Director aligns priorities, guides complex work, and brings people and efforts together to ensure housing initiatives move forward in a coordinated, practical, and meaningful way for Nunavummiut.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities of the successful candidate will also include:
Lead and oversee all real property management activities, including acquisition, disposal, leasing, and GN staff housing, while ensuring effective policies, performance monitoring, and continuous program improvement.
Direct all procurement and contracting functions, ensuring full compliance with GN legislation, NNI Policy, and the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement, while aligning procurement strategies with corporate priorities.
Support the Nunavut 3000 Strategy by coordinating land planning and acquisition with key stakeholders to enable housing development and achieve unit targets.
Provide strategic leadership and expert advice to senior leadership, including the VP, CEO, Minister, and Board, to inform decision-making on real property and procurement matters.
Manage divisional financial and human resources by overseeing budgets, guiding staff performance and development, and ensuring effective and efficient service delivery across the organization.
Qualifications
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this role are typically gained through the completion of an undergraduate degree in business administration, law, or a related field, along with eight years of progressive experience in real property or procurement and five years of relevant management experience.
Assets for this position include a professional certification in a related field and experience in the housing sector or public service.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
