The Property Accounting team is responsible for the accounting, financial reporting, and operational support of Ventas' real estate portfolio. The team partners closely with Asset Management, Property Management, Financial Planning & Analysis, External Reporting, and other cross-functional stakeholders to deliver accurate financial results, drive operational efficiency, and support strategic business initiatives.
About the Role
The Director, Property Accounting is responsible for leading the accounting and financial reporting activities for Ventas' Outpatient Medical and Research portfolio. This role oversees the month-end close process, lease accounting activities, financial statement review, external reporting support, audit coordination, and process improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal controls. The Director serves as a key business partner to Asset Management, Property Management, FP&A, and other stakeholders and is responsible for developing a high-performing accounting team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead the accounting and financial reporting processes for the Outpatient Medical and Research portfolio, ensuring accurate and timely financial results.
- Direct month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including oversight of journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analysis, and financial statement reviews.
- Oversee lease accounting and revenue recognition activities, including interpretation of lease agreements and application of ASC 842 and other relevant accounting guidance.
- Partner with Asset Management, Property Management, FP&A, and other stakeholders to support business objectives, resolve complex accounting matters, and improve financial performance.
- Lead the preparation and review of information required for external reporting, SEC reporting support, and internal management reporting.
Drive process improvement and automation initiatives across core accounting, financial reporting, CAM reconciliations, and CapEx-related workflows to enhance efficiency, strengthen controls, and improve the quality of financial information.
- Oversee internal and external audit activities and ensure compliance with SOX requirements, internal controls, and accounting policies.
- Lead, develop, and mentor accounting professionals by providing ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and career development support.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field required; CPA required.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within real estate, REIT, public accounting, or a combination of these environments.
- Must be located in the Louisville, KY surrounding area or willing to relocate for the duration of employment.
- Willingness to adapt and thrive in a blended work environment with 3-days in office, seamlessly transitioning between remote work and in-office operations.
- Demonstrated experience leading, developing, and managing high-performing accounting teams.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, lease accounting (ASC 842), and internal controls.
- Proven success driving process improvement initiatives and partnering effectively across functions.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience working with large, complex accounting and reporting environments.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without need for employer sponsorship now or in the future.
