The day-to-day role focuses on maintaining a robust control environment by overseeing payroll accuracy, compliance, and timely tax remittances across all US and Canada jurisdictions. You will manage a remote team of finance professionals, using delegation skills to distribute tasks effectively across varying skill levels while supporting their growth through performance enablement and professional development programs.
Beyond immediate operational oversight, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to align objectives, optimise workflows through automation, and manage 3rd-party vendor relationships. Your work also involves high-level strategic tasks, such as supporting audits, and executing the company's payroll roadmap to scale alongside business growth.
Who you are
- Oversee daily payroll operations, managing payroll teams across multiple regions and jurisdictions to ensure accurate, timely employee payments and exceptional service delivery.
- Ensure monthly and year-end payroll compliance while maintaining strict accuracy of financial information and unwavering compliance with internal controls, including SOX, tax regulations, and applicable data privacy laws.
- Review and approve payrolls, maintaining a controlled, compliant environment and ensuring all payroll process documentation remains accurate, complete, and up to date.
- Drive payroll strategy by partnering with our Payroll Solutions & Governance team to optimize end-to-end payroll processes, identify automation and integration opportunities, and continuously assess relationships with third-party payroll vendors.
- Partner closely with HR, Finance, and other cross-functional teams to align payroll operations with compensation, benefits, HR systems, and broader business objectives while building and maintaining key relationships across the organization.
- Support Indeed's growth by leading payroll due diligence, integrations, and implementation activities related to mergers and acquisitions, including enabling payroll operations in new countries as needed.
- Serve as a key contributing member of the Global Senior Director's leadership team, providing operational guidance, developing payroll talent, supporting strategic initiatives, and performing other duties as assigned.
Who we are
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field and a minimum of 15 years of related experience; or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 12 years of experience; or a PhD with 8 years experience
- Payroll Certification designation is required.
- Proven track record of spearheading large-scale payroll transformations, including deploying AI into payroll processes and identifying automation opportunities within a global business.
- Expert-level knowledge of payroll regulatory environments, multi-state workers, shadow payroll, equity payroll, payroll financial accounting, SOX frameworks, corporate governance, and data privacy laws.
- Outstanding executive presence with excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and build professional relationships internally and externally.
- Goal-driven change manager with exceptional problem-solving abilities, committed to operational precision, and able to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives in a dynamic multinational environment.
- Exceptional people leadership skills with experience managing remote teams, effectively delegating responsibilities, and fostering collaboration across numerous cross-functional teams.
- Proven ability to resolve complex payroll issues in a fast-paced environment while balancing competing priorities and driving operational excellence.
