 SUMMARY

The Director of Payroll is responsible for overseeing the entire payroll function, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees. This role provides strategic leadership to the payroll department, manages payroll staff, and develops and maintains payroll policies and procedures in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and tax laws. The Director of Payroll partners closely with Human Resources and Finance to ensure payroll systems are fully integrated, data is accurate, and payroll-related financial reporting and analysis support business needs. This position also resolves complex payroll issues, responds to employee inquiries, and stays current on payroll legislation and industry best practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES

•        Lead and oversee the Payroll department, providing strategic direction, leadership, and oversight

•        Manage and develop a team of payroll professionals to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing

•        Develop, implement, and maintain payroll policies, procedures, and best practices

•        Oversee the full payroll processing cycle, including time and attendance, wage calculations, and deductions

•        Partner with Human Resources to ensure employee data, status changes, and compensation updates are accurately reflected in payroll systems

•        Administer and maintain payroll systems, ensuring data integrity, confidentiality, and security

•        Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations, including withholding, filing, and reporting requirements

•        Lead the preparation, review, and distribution of payroll reports, pay statements, and year-end tax documents including W-2s

•        Address and resolve employee payroll questions, discrepancies, and escalations in a timely manner

•        Monitor changes in payroll laws and regulations and implement updates as required

•        Lead payroll automation and technology initiatives to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability

•        Develop and maintain detailed documentation of payroll processes and controls

•        Manage year-end payroll activities, reconciliations, audits, and reporting

•        Collaborate with Finance and Accounting to ensure accurate payroll-related financial reporting

•        Prepare and present payroll metrics, analytics, and trend reports to senior leadership

•        Oversee payroll-related benefits, deductions, garnishments, and retirement contributions

•        Manage relationships with external payroll vendors and service providers

•        Conduct regular internal audits of payroll data and processes to ensure compliance and accuracy

•        Foster a culture of confidentiality, accountability, accuracy, and compliance within the Payroll department

•        Drive continuous process improvement initiatives across payroll operations

•        Perform any additional duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS

•        18 years of age or older

•        Eligible to work in the United States

•        Ability to work in office, onsite, Monday–Friday

•        Must have a valid state-issued driver’s license with an acceptable driving record

•        Communicate effectively in English (reading, writing, speaking)

•        Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus

•        Minimum of 10 years of progressive payroll experience

•        Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)

•        Experience managing multi-location payroll operations

•        Strong working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email systems

•        Ability to effectively communicate with colleagues and clients, both in-person and through electronic means

•        Pass a background check and drug screen

•        Must be flexible to work extended hours on occasion to support field operations
