Director of Payroll

Job Description

Our client is hiring for a Payroll Director in Atlanta, GA. This role leads end-to-end payroll operations for a large, multi-entity organization with 8,000+ employees across multiple states and FEINs. The Payroll Director will own compliance, tax reporting, and system strategy while also partnering closely with Finance on GL accuracy, reconciliations, and month-end close. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who thrives on precision, process improvement, and building strong payroll teams. It's an opportunity to shape payroll strategy during a period of growth, including system implementations and M&A-driven integration work.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee full-cycle, multi-state payroll processing across weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly pay frequencies
• Manage payroll tax compliance, filings, and reporting, including W-2s, 1095-Cs, and quarterly/annual returns
• Partner with Finance and Accounting on GL journal entries, account reconciliations, and cost allocation across entities
• Lead, mentor, and develop a payroll team while driving system improvements and audit readiness

Qualifications:

• Extensive experience managing multi-state payroll for large, complex organizations (8,000+ employees)
• Strong background in payroll accounting, GL processes, and account reconciliations
• Hands-on experience with Workday and ADP SmartCompliance
• CPP Certification and Bachelor's degree required
