Full-time Description

North Naples Church is accepting applications for the full-time position of Director of Finance and Accounting.  The Director of Finance and Accounting is responsible for all matters pertaining to the finances of the church, including but not limited to the design, revision and maintenance of accounting systems, and policies and procedures. This position oversees other accounting staff and volunteers and ensures accounting functions, records and reports are prepared in accordance with regulations and business requirements. The Director reports to the Senior Pastor and works collaboratively with the Treasurer, auditors, other church staff and volunteers, and operates according to the Discipline of the UMC and the mission of the church in a professional Christ-like manner. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Work collaboratively with managers and leadership to prepare the annual operational and capital budgets including future revenues and expenditures. Perform monthly analysis of actual revenue and expenses versus budgeted revenue and expenses.
  2. Periodically review cash flow needs to ensure liquidity as needed.
  3. Prepare profit and loss statements and all financial reports to meet internal and external reporting requirements, and prepare analytical reports as required by the Finance Committee to assist in decision-making. 
  4. Serve as a member of the Finance and Endowment Committees.
  5. Plan, organize, and manage the annual financial audit and FLUMC annual reporting.
  6. Attend Board of Stewards meetings at least 4 times per year and Finance Committee meetings as necessary.
  7. Record accounting transactions and maintain general ledger, prepare journal entries for month-end and year-end close in accordance to GAAP and oversee payables.
  8. Manage reconciliations for multiple bank accounts and perform general ledger account analysis.
  9. Coordinate and manage accounting for designated fund accounts, create special funds, oversee approval for distributions, and generate reports as necessary. 
  10. Coordinate monthly mission-related transfers and provide reports to the Mission Committee. 
  11. Monitor and record quarterly performance of endowment and other interest bearing funds.
  12. Determine scheduling of annual apportionment and property insurance based on current cash flow.
  13. Generate several Conference related reports throughout the year and as necessary.
  14. Assist donors with financial questions, related inquiries, and contribution statements.  Serve as point of contact for estate gifts and coordinate the process.
  15. Manage volunteers including the counting team and provide support as necessary. 
  16. Prepare, distribute and file annual 1099s to vendors.
  17. Responsible for bank relations and troubleshooting issues as necessary.
  18. Resolve any reporting issues and discrepancies between organization and IRS or Social Security Administration.
  19. Process bi-weekly payroll and manage retirement and flexible spending account submissions, payroll journal entries, and federal tax deposits.  Process and file Form W-2s, Form W-3s and Form 941s.
  20. Analyze financial impact of benefit rates during the annual benefit renewal process, model scenarios, and participate in the decision-making process as it relates to the financial impact.
  21. Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
