Position Summary
NDM Hospitality is seeking a Director of Accounting to provide strategic leadership and hands-on oversight of all accounting functions across NDM Hospitality's operating portfolio of internally owned and third-party managed assets. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and leading the accounting team, including accounting managers and controllers, this role ensures accurate and timely financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with regulatory and owner requirements across a multi-entity, hospitality-focused organization. The Director serves as a key partner to operations and executive leadership and drives the scalable processes, systems, and insights that support growth and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team across corporate and property-level functions, including accounting managers and controllers
- Design scalable team structures, staffing plans, and succession strategies to support portfolio growth
- Establish performance expectations, accountability, and professional development pathways
- Continuously evaluate team structure, workloads, and role assignments to identify efficiencies, eliminate redundancies, and align resources with evolving business priorities
- Proactively assess current and future staffing needs to ensure the team is positioned ahead of portfolio growth, new property openings, acquisitions, and management contract expansions
- Build bench strength through targeted hiring, internal promotion, and cross-training to ensure continuity, scalability, and resilience as the portfolio expands
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration that attracts and retains top accounting talent
- Champion ongoing training and upskilling on accounting standards, hospitality-specific practices, and systems to keep the team ahead of industry and regulatory change
- Partner with the CFO and HR on compensation benchmarking, organizational design, and long-term succession planning to support a scalable, future-ready finance organization
Financial Reporting & Close
- Direct the preparation of accurate, timely consolidated financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Own month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes across all entities and properties
- Manage external audits and ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and owner reporting requirements
General Accounting Oversight
- Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management
- Ensure accurate intercompany accounting, eliminations, and reconciliations
- Implement, maintain, and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
Third-Party & Managed Asset Accounting
- Oversee accounting and financial reporting for third-party managed properties in accordance with management agreements
- Ensure accurate calculation and reporting of management fees, incentive fees, and reimbursable expenses
- Serve as the primary accounting liaison for property owners, joint venture partners, and external stakeholders
- Support owner audits, financial reviews, and information requests
Hospitality Operations Support
- Ensure proper accounting for hospitality-specific revenue streams, including rooms, food & beverage, events, and ancillary services
- Monitor and analyze key performance metrics such as GOP, NOI, expense margins, and labor cost metrics
- Partner with operations leaders to align financial reporting with operational performance
Systems, Data & Process Improvement
- Serve as accounting systems owner for ERP, PMS, POS, payroll, and reporting platforms
- Ensure data integrity, a consistent chart of accounts, and standardized reporting across all entities
- Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and close optimization efforts
Strategic Partnership & Planning
- Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic and operational decision-making
- Collaborate with leadership on annual budgets, forecasts, and reforecasts
- Support growth initiatives including new property openings, transitions, acquisitions, and management contract expansions
Treasury, Risk & Compliance
- Oversee cash flow forecasting, working capital management, banking relationships, and credit card merchant processing relationships
- Identify financial and operational risks and implement mitigation strategies
- Ensure strong governance, segregation of duties, and remediation of audit findings
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
- CPA designation strongly preferred
Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience
- At least 5 years in a senior accounting leadership role
- Proven experience managing multi-entity or multi-property accounting environments
- Hospitality, restaurant, and/or hotel experience strongly preferred
Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills
- Expert knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and regulatory compliance
- Advanced proficiency with the Oracle NetSuite accounting system
- Familiarity with the Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry (USALI) preferred
- Experience with PMS, POS, and payroll systems in a hospitality environment
- Ability to own consolidated financial statements, intercompany eliminations, and the close process
