Director of Accounting

NYC Electrical contractor seeks a Director of Accounting to oversee 3 locations and report to their CFO. CONSTRUCTION experience required. Medical/dental/401k match robust package.

• Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end closings
• Manage cash flow forecasting and working capital
• Develop and monitor company budgets and financial forecasts
• Present financial reports and analysis to executive leadership

Construction & Job Cost Accounting

• Oversee project-based accounting and job cost reporting
• Monitor project profitability, labor costs, change orders, and committed costs
• Maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and revenue recognition
• Review project billing, retainage tracking, and lien waiver processes
• Partner with project managers and operations teams to analyze financial performance of projects
• Ensure accurate cost coding and contract compliance

Payroll & Compliance

• Oversee union payroll, certified payroll, and prevailing wage compliance
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations
• Manage audits including financial, workers’ compensation, and union audits
• Coordinate annual tax filings and support external CPA firms
• Maintain internal controls and accounting policies

Leadership & Process Improvement

• Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff
• Improve accounting systems, workflows, and reporting efficiency
• Implement best practices for construction accounting and financial controls
• Collaborate with executives on strategic planning and operational improvements
• Support ERP/accounting software optimization
