The Director of Accounting and Financial Reporting is responsible for leading the organization’s accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, and cash management functions across multiple entities. This role provides strategic financial leadership while ensuring compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and internal controls.
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting expertise, financial modeling experience, and the ability to manage complex multi-entity reporting structures. This position also plays a critical leadership role in ERP system implementation and continuous process improvement initiatives that support organizational growth.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Operations & Reporting
- Lead and oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger management, monthly close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Develop, implement, and optimize accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to improve operational efficiency and financial accuracy.
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
- Prepare and oversee internal and external financial reports in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Manage consolidation and group reporting across multiple entities and business units.
- Conduct financial analysis and profitability assessments to support executive decision-making.
- Support annual financial statement compilations, reviews, and audits with external accounting firms.
- Coordinate tax return preparation and compliance activities with outside tax professionals and CPA firms.
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Develop and maintain complex financial models for new and existing entities, projects, and investments.
- Analyze and update financial models for changing assumptions, lender requirements, and project scenarios.
- Support financing activities by preparing forecasts, lender reporting, and cash flow analyses.
- Lead the development and ongoing management of annual budgets and forecasts.
- Provide strategic financial insights and recommendations to executive leadership.
Cash Management & Banking
- Oversee organizational cash management, banking relationships, wire transfers, ACH activity, and account administration.
- Monitor cash flow, liquidity, and funding requirements across multiple entities and projects.
- Review accounts payable activity, vendor payments, and intercompany transfers to ensure accuracy and proper authorization.
- Coordinate the setup and maintenance of banking services, including online banking platforms and treasury management tools.
Entity & Compliance Management
- Oversee accounting and financial reporting for multiple legal entities and special purpose entities (SPEs).
- Maintain compliance with entity licensing, property tax filings, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure proper organization and retention of accounting records, supporting documentation, and financial workpapers.
- Coordinate issuance of annual 1099s, K-1s, and other tax-related documentation.
Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance, training, and performance management.
- Foster collaboration across accounting, development, operations, and executive leadership teams.
- Serve as a key financial resource for internal stakeholders, lenders, investors, and external partners.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA Required.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting standards, and internal controls.
- Experience with ERP implementations and financial system conversions.
- Proven experience managing multi-entity accounting and consolidation reporting.
- Strong financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and analytical skills.
- Experience working with external auditors, lenders, and tax professionals.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial systems proficiency.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (MBA).
- Experience in real estate development, construction, or related industries.
- Prior experience in a Director-level or senior financial leadership role.
- Experience with complex entity structures and project-based accounting environments.
