Job Description
GFA World is seeking an experienced financial leader with a heart for transforming communities through the love of Jesus Christ. The role is a senior leader, strategic thinker and trusted partner to the President and Board of Directors. The Director of Accounting and Finance is responsible for leading the Accounting team, overseeing day-to-day operations and ensuring strong internal controls and adherence to all external compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
OPTION 1 – more extensive
Financial Management
- Managing accounts receivable and accounts payable, in conjunction with the Accounting Administrator.
- Reviewing of monthly reconciliations, including bank and credit card reconciliations and providing oversight and review of monthly journal entries prepared by the Accounting Administrator to ensure accuracy, compliance with accounting standards, and proper documentation.
- Overseeing bi-weekly payroll, ensuring accuracy, compliance with federal and state regulations, and timely payment to all employees.
- Monitoring cash flow and forecasting, managing bank transfers and account balances
- Ensuring timely deposits and accurate recording of receipts in coordination with the Donation Processing and IT teams
Financial reporting and compliance
- Preparing and presenting periodic financial reports for the Senior Leadership Team and Board, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and timely delivery.
- Supporting the annual budgeting process
- Leading the coordination of the annual audit and completion of all required tax forms, working with external auditors and senior team members
- Maintaining donor restricted fund schedules
Staff & stakeholder support and management
- Leading the development and compliance of accounting policies and procedures
- Providing staff training regarding Accounting policies and procedures, and ensuring staff compliance with accounting processes, troubleshooting issues and concerns as necessary
Management & Leadership
- Supporting Senior Leadership with materials and presentations as needed.
- Manage relationships with auditors, financial institutions, investment advisors, and other financial partners.
- Leading Accounting team and the organization in the adoption of financial systems and tools, ensuring efficient processes and accurate data, driving continuous improvement initiatives in financial operations, policies, and procedures.
- Lead, mentor, and develop members of the Accounting Team, fostering growth and high performance. Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback.
OPTION 2 – more general
Financial Leadership, Management, Reporting and Compliance
- Lead financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
- Provide clear financial analysis and insights to support leadership and Board decision-making.
- Ensure accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting and internal controls.
- Monitor and forecast cash flow to ensure operational and capital needs are met.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, account reconciliations, and program accounting processes with support of the Accounting Administrator.
- Manage and oversee annual external audit process.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and nonprofit financial standards.
- Manage relationships with auditors, financial institutions, investment advisors, and other financial partners.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate brings meaningful nonprofit financial leadership experience and has delivered in a role which required both technical depth and close collaboration with senior leadership. They are comfortable carrying independent credibility with auditors, and external partners. Effective judgment, discretion, and genuine passion for GFA’s mission are essential.
Knowledge and Experience
- 5 years experience in financial leadership and nonprofit finance preferred, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in accounting or CPA strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success managing operations and improving organizational systems.
- Experience in nonprofit organizations.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
