The Director, Accounting serves all Sarah Cannon Research Institute (SCRI) lines of business and is responsible for leading accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end close, balance sheet integrity, accounts payable oversight, and the internal control environment. This position ensures financial information is accurate, timely, and compliant with U.S. GAAP, company policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.

This is a hybrid position based at our Nashville, TN corporate offices. Relocation assistance and visa sponsorship are not available.

The Director, Accounting partners closely with Revenue Cycle, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), Operations, Legal, Tax, Treasury, Technical Accounting, Information Technology, Internal Audit, and external auditors. The role supports organizational growth, system integrations, mergers and other new business operations, while driving process improvement, automation, staff development, and standardization across SCRI accounting functions.

Duties include and are not limited to:

Financial Reporting and Close Process

• Lead and oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close activities.

Accounting Operations and Governance

• Oversee general ledger accounting activities across SCRI lines of business.

Revenue Recognition Governance

• Partner with Technical Accounting, Revenue Cycle, and operational leadership to evaluate complex accounting transactions, contract modifications, revenue recognition matters, and new business arrangements.

Balance Sheet Integrity and Reconciliations

• Ensure timely preparation and review of balance sheet reconciliations.

Accounts Payable Oversight

• Provide leadership and oversight of accounts payable operations.

Internal Controls, Compliance, and Audit Support

• Maintain an effective financial control environment.

Systems, Integrations, and New Business Operations

• Provide accounting leadership for financial system implementations, upgrades, interfaces, and integrations.

Strategic Initiatives and Process Improvement

• Lead automation, standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives across Accounting.
• Partner with Revenue Cycle, FP&A, Information Technology, and Finance leadership to improve workflows and data quality.

Leadership and Talent Development

• Recruit, develop, coach, and retain a high-performing accounting team.

Executive and Governance Support

• Prepare materials, analyses, and presentations supporting executive leadership, audit activities, financial statement reviews, and other governance-related reporting requirements.

Qualifications for success include:

• Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required
• Eight or more years of progressive accounting experience.
• Five or more years of people leadership experience.
• Demonstrated experience leading month-end close, financial reporting, accounting operations, and internal controls.
• Healthcare, clinical research, life sciences, or multi-entity accounting experience preferred.
• Experience supporting acquisitions, purchase accounting, post-close integration, or similar transaction accounting activities preferred.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting requirements, and accounting policy application.
• Thorough understanding of internal controls, accounting governance, and audit support.
• Experience with ERP systems, financial reporting tools, system integrations, and process automation.
