Position Summary

The Director of Accounting is responsible for directing and coordinating activities of the accounting staff to produce accurate and timely transactions related to the General Ledger. This includes: Cash, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Procurement, Corporate Credit cards, Payroll, Sales, Grants and Contracts. Responsible for the Month End close schedule and accuracy of reconciliations. Responsible for coordinating documentation of accounting control procedures and budget development. Responsible for monthly financial statements and trend analysis reports. Acts as liaison during the audit between team members and external audit staff

Essential Functions

  1. Department Operations: (45%) Oversees cash and reconciliations, accounting of payroll, and accounts payable and receivable operations. Responsible for review and approval of all journal entries. Develops, documents and implements record keeping systems, forms, policies, and procedures related to billing, processing payments, and other accounts payable, receivables and payroll activities. Communicates and coordinates accounting policies, practices, and procedures with department and company managers and officials, vendors, reporting agencies, clients, customers, and the public. Coordinates and integral staff in the preparation of data for the annual audit and interacting with the auditors. Instrumental in the development of organizational budgets. Aids in the production of financial statements. Oversee the fiscal management of grant funded projects including the development of grant budgets in collaboration with other PATNC departments. Fulfill budget reporting responsibilities and act as point person. Oversee activities, expenditures and reporting responsibilities pertaining to accounting and budgeting. Consult, as needed, on intra-department issues. 
  2. Team Leadership: (15%) Directly supervises employees in the finance department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, directing and reviewing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. In absence of CFO, acts as backup or department contact.
  3. Problem Solving: (30%) Resolves problems and inconsistencies concerning accounting issues and suggests appropriate corrective procedures. Identifies errors and develops corrective action with team. Handle accounting department complaints.   
  4. Fiscal Responsibility: Manage financial activities (e.g., budgeting, credit card processing, financial review, and internal controls) assessed by the accounting operating division.
  5. Other duties as assigned. (5%)
