The Role of the Deputy Chief Financial Officer

The Deputy Chief Financial Officer (DCFO) serves as a key member of the executive leadership team at Rocky Mountain Prep, a 12-school charter management organization with 650+ employees. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this role is responsible for ensuring the organization’s long-term sustainability through strategic leadership of Finance, Information Technology, and Development.

This leader integrates financial stewardship, technological infrastructure, and revenue generation to drive organizational resilience, growth, and operational excellence. The DCFO ensures that Rocky Mountain Prep operates with strong systems, sustainable resources, and a forward-looking strategy in service of its mission and PEAK values (Perseverance, Excellence, Adventure, Kindness).

This role directly manages Finance and IT and oversees Development in close partnership with the CEO (dotted-line reporting), ensuring alignment between financial strategy, fundraising, and organizational priorities.

Qualifications

Required:

Preferred:

Education: 

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field required; MBA, CPA, or related advanced credential preferred.

Years of experience: 10+ years of progressive leadership experience, ideally spanning finance, operations, or strategy in education, nonprofit, or public sector settings.

Compensation
$175,000 - $240,000. This range reflects the full growth potential of the role over time. Rocky Mountain Prep typically expects to place candidates in the lower- to middle-range, depending on experience, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.
