JOB GOAL

To perform a variety of professional level accounting duties involving the accounting recording and reporting of financial transactions, to review accounting records and reports for accuracy, and to assist other departmental staff with accounting related functions.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. To maintain and reconcile a variety of ledgers and accounts, examine accounting transactions to ensure accuracy, and correct financial records and reports as necessary.
  2. To prepare and maintain accounting systems including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, fixed assets and other accounting systems.
  3. To create and maintain accounting systems as required to comply with various governmental agency guidelines, policies and procedures; prepare reports required by agencies and auditors.
  4. To prepare and review computer input data for monthly financial reports, and assist in the preparation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
  5. To balance accounts receivable to general ledger and reserve and deposit accounts, complete all adjustments and write-offs to ledger before monthly billing is released and bill accounts receivable customers.
  6. To administer the Schools Board’s state and federal grants, prepare reports and complete necessary forms for request of funds.
  7. To provide assistance in the preparation of the annual audit report, assist auditors as requested and answer questions regarding annual audit report.
  8. To prepare a variety of complex financial reports including monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.
  9. To complete annual close-outs of grants, special programs and capital projects.
  10. To prepare payroll federal tax and direct deposits, reconcile payroll and general ledger bank accounts, check and verify time sheets and compute salary scale changes to ensure correct progression.
  11. To prepare monthly payroll, retirement reports and quarterly unemployment reports, and prepare W-2’s and verify employment for loans and other programs.
  12. To process invoices, bills, checks, expense reports and vouchers.
  13. To assist with and oversee various bookkeeping and accounting activities of other Finance Department staff.
  14. To perform other duties as assigned.
  15. To establish and execute a professional growth and self-evaluation plan.
  16. To learn Rapides Parish School Board policies, procedures and regulations.
  17. To apply accounting principles to governmental accounting.
  18. To apply pertinent federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.
  19. To prepare a variety of financial statements, documents and reports.
  20. To examine and verify routine financial documents and reports.
  21. To communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  22. To maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include sitting for extended periods of time and operating assigned equipment including computers.
  23. To maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, reading and writing, working with numbers, operating assigned equipment and communicating with others.
  24. To maintain mental capacity which permits making sound decisions and using good judgement and demonstrating intellectual capabilities.
