The Credit Analyst is responsible for supporting the daily operations and continuous improvement of the credit function, including counterparty onboarding, credit administration, contract review, customer inquiries, reporting, and monitoring credit exposures. In this role, you will leverage financial analysis, reporting, and credit risk management to support commercial decision-making across Williams' growing wholesale trading and marketing business. You will evaluate counterparty financial strength, analyze credit exposure, assess complex deal structures, support risk mitigation strategies, and collaborate with Commercial, Legal, Accounting, Risk, and Structuring teams to balance business opportunities with sound risk management. This position focuses on counterparty credit risk assessment, exposure management, and commercial transaction support rather than traditional accounts receivable collections activities. Success in this position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, sound business judgment, and the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The position may be filled at the Credit Analyst II or Credit Analyst III level, with placement determined based on the selected candidate's experience, demonstrated capabilities, and depth of credit risk and commercial transaction expertise.
Responsibilities/Expectations
- Review and evaluate counterparty creditworthiness, financial strength, and overall risk profile
- Support credit limit administration and monitoring of credit exposure
- Review credit terms within counterparty agreements and provide recommendations
- Process letters of credit, guarantees, and collateral instruments in accordance with company guidelines
- Review counterparty contracts and respond to customer and counterparty inquiries
- Perform financial analysis and modeling to support credit evaluations, risk assessments, and credit recommendations
- Monitor counterparty credit exposure and payment performance to support credit risk management decisions
- Produce reports on credit activities and operations
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external counterparties
- Collaborate with Commercial, Legal, Accounting, Risk, and Structuring teams to support business objectives while managing risk
- Other duties as assigned
Education/Experience by Level
Credit Analyst II
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in an accounting or finance environment
- Preferred: Five (5) years of oil and gas accounting or finance experience
Credit Analyst III
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in Finance, Accounting, or Business
- Preferred: Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business with a minimum of seven (7) years of Finance or Accounting experience in the oil and gas industry
- Preferred: CPA
Additional Expectations by Level
Credit Analyst II
- Supports credit evaluations, credit recommendations, and exposure monitoring
- May mentor and assist in training team members
- May represent Williams at industry conferences and external events
Credit Analyst III
- Establishes credit limits for new and existing counterparties
- Manages credit-related settings within electronic trading platforms, including ICE
- Provides training, mentorship, and operational guidance to team members
- Represents Williams at industry conferences and working groups
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in credit risk management, commercial credit analysis, commodity trading, energy marketing, treasury, corporate finance, or related analytical finance functions
- Experience evaluating financial statements, establishing credit limits, and managing counterparty credit risk
- Preferred: CPA (Credit Analyst III)
