What We're Looking For
We're looking for a hands-on Cost Accountant who enjoys partnering with operations to improve manufacturing performance, strengthen inventory accuracy, and drive profitability. The ideal candidate is curious about how products are made, comfortable collaborating on the production floor, and passionate about using financial insights to solve problems, improve processes, and support better business decisions.
Position Summary
The Cost Accountant is responsible for managing manufacturing cost accounting, inventory valuation, and margin analysis across our operations. This role partners closely with finance, engineering, production, and supply chain to ensure accurate product costing, identify cost-saving opportunities, and support strategic business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze manufacturing costs, gross margins, and profitability by customer, product, and job.
- Monitor inventory valuation, cost of goods sold (COGS), and manufacturing variances.
- Maintain accurate product costing within the ERP system, including BOMs, routings, labor standards, and overhead rates.
- Lead cycle counts, physical inventories, reconciliations, and inventory control initiatives.
- Support month-end close with journal entries, account reconciliations, and inventory reporting.
- Develop KPIs and financial reports that improve visibility into costs, inventory, and operational performance.
- Partner with operations and engineering to identify cost drivers, improve processes, and reduce waste.
- Support internal audits, external audits, and compliance with GAAP.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment (5+ years preferred).
- Strong understanding of inventory accounting, standard/weighted average costing, and variance analysis.
- Experience with ERP systems (IFS preferred) and advanced Excel skills.
- CPA or CMA preferred.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to travel occasionally between manufacturing facilities (less than 10%).
Work Environment
This position includes both office and manufacturing floor responsibilities. Candidates should be comfortable working in a fabrication environment and wearing required PPE while in production areas. Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. (with assistance when needed) and limited travel between facilities may be required.
