Job Summary:

Under minimal supervision, this position gathers timely cost information for business decision making purposes—including (but not limited to) product costing, margin analysis, inventory valuation/reserves, and manufacturing variances. Additionally, the Cost Accountant will complete the monthly payroll reports and JEs. This position supports the monthly close cycle as well as ad-hoc cost and financial analysis. This position will partner with others in Finance, Sales, Engineering, and Operations to provide analysis on current costs, cost savings, inventory, and other items as needed.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Maintain an accurate standard cost for all parts through labor and overhead rate studies and purchase price analysis. Provide variance analysis on purchase price, material usage, labor rate, and overhead spend.
• Participate in the month-end close cycle, including preparation of required journal entries and account reconciliations related to Inventory Valuation and Payroll.
• Lead the annual physical inventory process including training, execution of counts, and reconciliation of results. Support inventory optimization initiatives, including driving processes to identify excess and obsolete stocks, evaluate root cause drivers, and maintain appropriate disposition policies and procedures.
• Support role in performance vs budget analysis, make vs. buy decisions, and margin analysis as needed.
• Support the Finance Department to ensure deadlines are met; cross train with other team members and fill in where needed.
• Identify areas for simplification within daily work and execute those projects. Including work instructions as needed.
• Support inter-departmental projects and analysis as needed for profitability improvement.
• Assist with the FP&A process:
  • Work with the Finance manager to understand and use forecasting and reporting tools, Quarter end process and reporting, as well as Strategic Planning
  • Assist with ad hoc reporting, and help to build and maintain tools for analytics
• Regular and reliable attendance

Skills & Experience Required: 

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
• Strong analytical skills with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail 
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Highly self-motivated individual who will drive process improvements
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, advanced user preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Must have Authorization to work in the United States and be able to have lawful access to controlled technology as required for this position.
