We are seeking a detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join our established finance team. This is a vital, non-exempt role reporting directly to the Senior Cost Accountant, offering a great path for someone looking to deepen their expertise in project-based financial management.
The Mission
In this role, you won't just be crunching numbers; youâll be the financial "eyes and ears" for large-scale projects. You will ensure that labor, materials, and subcontractor costs are tracked with precision to keep projects profitable and transparent.
Core Responsibilities:
Project Analysis: Deep-dive into construction project costs, tracking variances in labor and materials.
PM Partnership: Collaborate with Project Managers during monthly project reviews to ensure financial accuracy.
Month-End Mastery: Assist with monthly job accruals and the Work in Progress (WIP) review process.
Budgeting Support: Play a key role in the annual plant budgeting process and Capital Expenditure (CapEx) planning.
Reporting: Generate insightful cost reports for the leadership team to guide decision-making.
Financial Integrity: Support the month-end and year-end closing cycles to ensure bulletproof financial statements.
What You Bring to the Table:
The Foundation: An Associateâs degree (or higher) in Accounting, or equivalent professional experience.
The Experience: 1â5 years of "in the trenches" accounting experience (Payroll, AP, or AR).
Industry Savvy: A solid grasp of cost accounting principles; experience in the construction or industrial sector is a significant advantage.
Tech Stack: You are an Excel power user. If you have experience with Vista (Viewpoint), we definitely want to talk to you.
Soft Skills: You are self-motivated, naturally curious, and able to communicate complex financial data to non-finance team members.
Logistics & Travel:
Base: This position is based out of our office in the Greater Springfield, MA area.
Mobility: Approximately 10-15% travel is required to visit project sites or regional facilities.
