Summary

We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join our team in a fast-paced precision machine shop environment. This role directly supports the Controller and plays a critical part in strengthening our accounting processes, improving data visibility, and driving operational efficiency.

The ideal candidate combines strong accounting knowledge with advanced data and computer skills, and is motivated to enhance systems through automation, including the use of AI and improved inventory practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Analytical – Collects, analyzes, and interprets complex data sets to support accounting and operational decisions; develops KPIs and performance metrics.
• Job Knowledge – Demonstrates knowledge of accounting principles, inventory processes, and manufacturing operations; exhibits ability to learn and apply new systems and tools.
• Use of Technology – Adapts to new technologies; uses systems and tools (ERP, Excel, automation/AI) to improve productivity and reporting accuracy; keeps technical skills up to date.
• Problem Solving – Identifies process inefficiencies and develops practical solutions, including automation and workflow improvements.
• Attention to Detail – Ensures accuracy in financial data, inventory records, and reporting.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Data Analytics, or  2+ years of experience in accounting or data analysis in a manufacturing environment.

Language Skills

Ability to demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to effectively communicate financial and operational data to internal teams, including accounting, production, and management.
Ability to prepare reports, correspondence, and respond to corporate data requests clearly and professionally.

Mathematical Skills

Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to perform calculations related to inventory, WIP, and product costing.
Ability to analyze financial and operational data, including variances, margins, and performance metrics.
Proficiency in working with whole numbers, decimals, ratios, and percentages.
Ability to develop and interpret KPIs, trends, and data models to support decision-making.
Ability to create and interpret graphs, charts, and reports for financial and production analysis.

Reasoning Ability

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
Ability to interpret complex data sets and provide actionable insights to support decision-making.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to identify process improvement opportunities, including automation and efficiency enhancements.

Computer Skills

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data modeling).
Experience using ERP systems (Global Shop preferred) and customer portals.
High level of computer proficiency with the ability to learn and optimize new systems and technologies quickly.
Familiarity with automation tools or AI applications in accounting or data analysis is a plus.
