Accounts Payable Specialist
Remote (Ontario-Based Candidates Only)
12–13 Month Contract
$28.00–$30.00 per hour
About the Opportunity
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounts Payable Specialist to join a busy finance team on a 12–13 month contract basis. This fully remote opportunity is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring the timely and accurate processing of financial transactions.
The successful candidate will be responsible for full-cycle accounts payable activities, purchase order administration, vendor reconciliations, and supporting month-end and audit processes.
Key Responsibilities:- Accounts Payable
- Perform full-cycle accounts payable functions from invoice receipt through payment processing.
- Review, code, verify, and enter invoices into the accounting system.
- Match invoices to purchase orders and obtain appropriate approvals.
- Prepare weekly or bi-weekly accounts payable aging reports.
- Process vendor payments via EFT, cheque, and wire transfers.
- Ensure invoices are paid accurately and on time.
- Reconcile vendor statements and investigate discrepancies.
- Review and process corporate credit card transactions.
- Maintain organized accounting and vendor records.
- Purchase Order Administration
- Review purchase order requests and assign purchase order numbers.
- Confirm receipt of goods and services through appropriate documentation.
- Monitor outstanding purchase orders and assist with monthly accrual reporting.
- Financial Reporting & Reconciliations
- Assist with month-end and year-end accounting processes.
- Identify and accrue unrecorded liabilities as required.
- Prepare supporting documentation for audits and financial reporting.
- Assist with account reconciliations and other accounting duties as assigned.
- Collaboration & Compliance
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure accurate financial processing.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, and financial controls.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the finance function.
- Diploma or post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Accounts Payable or a similar accounting role.
- Experience with QuickBooks Accounting Software is required.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial processes.
- Experience processing high volumes of invoices accurately and efficiently.
- Ability to reconcile vendor accounts and resolve discrepancies.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while meeting deadlines.
- Fully remote work environment (must reside in Ontario).
