Summary
The Controller position establishes and maintains accounting systems and procedures to accurately present financial information to both internal and external parties. The Controller is responsible for the dealership’s financial operations to effectively maintain fiscal procedures and controls, to analyze performance and to recommend action needed to maximize profitability to the dealership. Additionally, the Controller supervises the accounting department, business office and all administrative functions at the store.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for accounting operations of the dealership including, but not limited to timely financial reporting, dealership compliance, and support to the General Manager.
- Adhere to dealership financial policies and procedures established by the corporate office as well as generally accepted accounting principles.
- Compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
- Ensure applicable controls are in place to monitor accounting practices and to safeguard dealership assets and customer data.
- Actively manage cash flow, bank reconciliation, floorplan and accounts receivable balances.
- Analyze financial data, account for variances and present results and/or recommendations.
- Prepare and interpret financial statements in accord with dealership company guideline.
- Assist in audit preparation and inquiries (sales tax, franchise, warranty, property/casualty).
- Respond timely to inquiries from employees, vendors, state and federal agencies.
- Manage, mentor and hold accountable the office staff and accounting personnel; training and supervision of as well as delegation to the Office Manager.
- Oversee the HR, Benefits and Payroll function at the dealership including accurate and timely processing of employee paperwork, pay plans, benefits, and payroll with corresponding GL posts.
- Ensure compliance with appropriate internal and external authorities.
- Conduct weekly A/R and CIT meetings to review receivables and open A/R’s with fixed ops managers and F&I employees.
- Perform month/year end closing, report generation and completion of compliance checklist.
- Maintain professional personal appearance.
- Complete required training assigned through the company training portal.
- Adhere to consistent and reliable work schedule.
- Demonstrate ethical business practices and integrity in all interactions to uphold the Mac Haik Automotive group brand.
- Effectively perform duties and responsibilities in a safe manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related discipline required; CPA preferred
- Prior financial leadership role in the automotive industry
- DMS knowledge required; CDK/ADP preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel)
- Successful completion of pre-employment screening
- Authorization to work in the USA
- Valid Driver’s Licenses and acceptable driving record
