Controller

Summary:

We are a growing electrical contractor looking for a hands-on financial leader who can strengthen our accounting function, improve visibility into job performance, and partner with leadership to support continued growth. This is a hands-on role in a growing environment, and the right person must be comfortable working in the details while also improving processes, reporting, and accountability. This individual will support the CFO with managing all accounting processes, compile & review financial information, and recommend improvements and implementation of best practices/pivots, as necessary.

The successful candidate will have a clear pathway to become the CFO in 4-6 years when current CFO retires.

Core Responsibilities:

• Lead accounting staff by overseeing AP/AR, payroll, and operations support.
• Manages AR and collection communications.
• Track and evaluate all financial operations of company’s two service departments.
• Help shape the future finance function and support the company’s next stage of growth.
• Partner with leadership and operations to support better decisions and stronger accountability.
• Monitor and suggest improvements to processes and internal controls.
• Recommends policies and develops procedures relating to financial and business practices.
• Play a vital role in managing & utilizing current accounting software systems.
• Produce regular ad-hoc financial reports, forecasts, and analyses.
• Other duties as assigned by management.

Assist CFO with:

• Month end closing processes including: Preparation, generation, and review of financial reports on a monthly and annual basis.
• Management of the annual CPA review and preparation of necessary forms and documents.
• Budgeting and variance analysis.
• Analyze and interpret balance sheet and income statement metrics and trends.
• Planning functions, including budgeting and forecasting.

• Account analysis, as needed.
• Work closely with project management team in financial forecasting, cost report analysis, and WIP report generation.
• Review & post payroll journal & job costing system entries and accruals to accounting software systems.

• Process contract billings.

Education Level:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field

Experience Desired:

• A minimum of 5 years’ accounting experience; construction industry experience a plus.
• CPA preferred
• Fluent in budget planning, balance sheets, and month end close practices.
• Fluent in General Ledger reconciliation and account analysis
• Experience working in/with a family business a plus.
• S-Corp Taxation experience plus.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, wearing multiple hats with constant interruptions.
• Proven leadership skills to guide and stive for continuous improvement.
• Successful experience collaborating with other team members and departments.
