Philadelphia FIGHT is pleased to announce an opening for a Controller within our Finance Department. The Controller will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements and supervising the accounting staff. The Controller will also complete accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, grant reporting, year-end audit preparation as well as support of the budget and forecast activities.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is required. Master's degree and/or CPA is strongly preferred.
  2. 10+ years of experience in related accounting/finance roles required.
  3. 5+ years of supervisory experience required.
  4. Must possess basic computer skills to perform job duties including desktop computing, e-mail, time sheet management, HRIS, internet research, etc. and the ability to learn software applications relevant to your position. Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize and produce reports on Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
  5. Experience with SAGE 100 or MAS 90 preferred but not required.
  6. Experience with payroll systems required, preferably iSolved.
  7. Familiarity with Chart of Accounts and General Ledger expense accounts.
  8. Understanding of internal controls and compliance.
  9. Strong skillsets in oral and written communication, cultural competence, interpersonal relationships and teamwork, attention to detail, customer service, time management, autonomy, problem solving and organization.
  10. Demonstrated analytical ability, abstract reasoning skills, and excellent organization skills.
  11. Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  12. Effective project and process management skills as demonstrated from past work experience.
  13. Ability to maintain confidentiality with compensation data and sensitive financial matters.
  14. Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
  15. Must be able to exercise good judgment and identify when to escalate issues as appropriate.
  16. Ability to remain solution-focused and respectful in all interactions with staff, co-workers, vendors, and patients.
  17. Excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  18. Ability to display a non-judgmental attitude.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Oversees the implementation of Finance processes including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, financial reporting, and the general ledger.
  2. Hires, trains, evaluates and develops Finance staff in support of core FIGHT values and policies, practices and principles; address and monitor the specific goals and assignments of each staff member by facilitating regular one/one supervisory meetings.
  3. Implements consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs, adhering to national and local legal standards while remaining knowledgeable of proposed legislation.
  4. Establishes (in coordination with CFO) financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on biweekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  5. Develops and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflows.
  6. Manages the completion of grant budgets and grant reporting for federal, state, and city grants.
  7. Ensures timely reporting of all monthly and annual accounting reports for management and executive team.
  8. Ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and relevant regulations.
  9. Coordinates the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts, analyzing variances and providing insights to senior management.
  10. Assists FIGHT in achieving budget goals with proper scheduling, analysis, and corrective actions as necessary.
  11. Develops and implements internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial reporting. Uphold, support, and promote all company policies and procedures.
  12. Provides strategic financial leadership and support for business decisions.
  13. Leads the annual audit process and ensures a clean and timely year-end audit, liaison with external auditors and ensure compliance with all reporting requirements.
  14. Maximizes payroll efficiency through innovative process development.
  15. Maintains compliance with all FIGHT policies and procedures. Reports known conduct taken by any FIGHT employee (including yourself) which violates any FIGHT policy or law on which you have been trained, or should know of, such as laws criminalizing theft or violent crimes, and reports the matter to management.
  16. Other duties as assigned to fulfill FIGHT's mission.
