Position Summary
The Controller is responsible for hands-on and overseeing all accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance functions for a private equity-backed organization. This role plays a critical part in providing accurate and timely financial information to management, lenders, investors, and ownership while supporting strategic initiatives, acquisitions, and value-creation efforts. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical accounting expertise, experience in a fast-paced PE environment, and a continuous improvement mindset.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead all day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management.
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Develop and maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
- Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and interactions with external auditors, tax advisors, and lenders.
- Support private equity ownership reporting requirements, including monthly financial packages, covenant reporting, and board presentation materials.
- Partner with executive leadership to develop budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections, and financial analyses.
- Lead accounting integration efforts related to mergers, acquisitions, and business combinations, including purchase accounting under ASC 805.
- Maintain lease accounting compliance under ASC 842.
- Analyze financial performance, identify trends, and recommend operational improvements to enhance profitability and cash flow.
- Monitor working capital metrics and support initiatives to improve liquidity and operational efficiency.
- Manage and develop accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Assist with ERP implementations, system enhancements, and process automation initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- CPA designation required.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership responsibilities.
- Experience working in a private equity-backed company required.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and audit management.
- Experience with acquisition accounting, including ASC 805 purchase accounting.
- Experience with lease accounting under ASC 842.
- Advanced proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
- Multi-location operations experience.
- Event Rental Industry a plus.
- Track record of successfully integrating acquired businesses and improving accounting processes.
