Controller I

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Controller I to join our growing finance team. This role supports the organization’s accounting and financial reporting functions while working closely with senior finance leadership to ensure accurate financial records, strong internal controls, and efficient accounting operations.

This position is ideal for an accounting professional looking to expand their technical expertise and grow into a future Controller or Director of Finance role.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Close Process

• Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
• Maintain general ledger accuracy and resolve account discrepancies
• Assist with preparation of internal financial statements and management reports

Accounting Operations

• Support oversight of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll accounting activities
• Ensure proper revenue and expense recognition in accordance with GAAP
• Assist with cash management and bank reconciliations

Compliance & Internal Controls

• Maintain and enforce internal accounting policies and procedures
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
• Assist with sales tax, payroll tax, and other regulatory filings

Budgeting & Financial Analysis

• Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes
• Perform variance analysis and provide financial insights to leadership
• Assist with departmental financial reporting and cost tracking

Process Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows and reporting efficiency
• Assist with accounting system maintenance and implementation initiatives
• Document accounting procedures and maintain process controls

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
• 2–5 years of progressive accounting experience
• Experience in public accounting or mid-size companies preferred
• CPA track or CPA eligibility is a plus

Technical Skills

• Strong understanding ofGAAP and cash/accrual accounting principles
• Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting systems
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations)
• Familiarity with financial reporting and accounting close cycles
