Position Summary: This position plays a critical leadership role in driving the financial strategy, accuracy, and efficiency of the organization. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance & Innovation, the Controller oversees all accounting operations, ensures regulatory compliance, and contributes to key business decisions through strategic financial guidance. This role also involves mentoring and leading the finance team to foster professional growth and operational excellence. Location: Rockford, IL This position reports to: Director of Finance & Innovation This position has direct reports: Yes FLSA Hourly/Salary: Starting Salary range $80,000-$110,000
Essential Functions:

- Lead the preparation and presentation of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
- Direct and oversee the budgeting and forecasting processes, providing strategic insights to drive organizational goals.
- Provide high-level oversight of accounts payable and receivable operations, ensuring efficiency and accuracy.
- Mentor, train, and evaluate finance team members, fostering a culture of excellence and professional growth.
- Perform in-depth financial analysis, including variance analysis, to support strategic decision-making.
- Partner with external auditors and manage the audit process, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Develop, implement, and monitor robust internal controls to safeguard the organization’s assets and ensure financial integrity.
- Collaborate across departments and international locations, such as Field Mexico sites, to harmonize financial processes and improve overall efficiency.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the finance department to optimize workflows and systems.
- Oversee compliance with tax regulations, including reviewing sales and use tax filings and ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local requirements.
- Manage the preparation and reconciliation of fixed asset schedules.
- Serve as a key advisor to the leadership team, providing actionable financial insights to guide decision-making.
- Lead special projects and initiatives aligned with organizational priorities.
Education, Skills and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA certification strongly preferred).
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, ideally in a distribution or manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning.
- Proven ability to lead and inspire a team, driving accountability and performance.
- Advanced proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on delivering actionable insights.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and fostering a positive workplace culture.
Additional Skills Preferred:
- CPA, CMA, or CGMA preferred.
- Working knowledge of ERP systems, preferably Prophet 21.
- Working knowledge of threaded fasteners is preferred.
- Some knowledge of “C” class items is beneficial.
- Previous fastener distribution and/or fastener manufacturing experience, beneficial.
