Controller, Community Bank Finance & Regulatory Reporting

Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee financial operations, regulatory reporting, and strategic financial planning. This role is ideal for a banking finance leader with strong knowledge of GAAP, regulatory compliance, capital and liquidity management, and internal controls.

The Controller serves as the senior financial leader responsible for the bank's accounting operations, financial reporting, regulatory filings, budgeting, and treasury oversight. This position works closely with executive leadership to support financial strategy, risk management, and long‑term planning. The role requires deep familiarity with community‑bank operations and regulatory expectations.

Responsibilities:

Financial Strategy & Leadership

• Provide financial insights for strategic initiatives and long‑term planning.
• Support development of financial strategy aligned with organizational goals.
• Advise leadership on financial planning, performance, and growth opportunities.

Financial Reporting & Regulatory Compliance

• Coordinate with auditors and regulatory agencies.
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
• Ensure accuracy of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Manage regulatory reporting requirements for a community banking environment.

Capital, Liquidity & Treasury Oversight

• Contribute to ALM processes and interest‑rate risk management.
• Support capital adequacy, liquidity planning, and balance‑sheet optimization.
• Oversee treasury functions including cash flow, funding, and investment portfolios.

Risk Management & Internal Controls

• Maintain strong internal controls and financial governance.
• Ensure compliance with applicable banking regulations and policies.
• Monitor financial risks and support enterprise risk management processes.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Board Reporting

• Analyze financial performance, variances, and trends.
• Lead annual budgeting and long‑term financial planning.
• Present financial results and recommendations to executive leadership and the board.

Qualifications (Must-Haves)

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Experience partnering with or overseeing BSA/AML/FCC functions.
• Proven leadership experience managing accounting or finance staff.
• Ability to work onsite and collaborate closely with executive leadership.
• Strong experience with GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
• 5–8+ years of banking finance or accounting experience (community or regional bank preferred)
• Hands‑on experience with regulatory reporting, capital/liquidity management, and treasury/ALM.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience in a community banking environment.
• Experience presenting to boards, auditors, and regulators.
• Familiarity with Basel III, stress testing, and liquidity frameworks.
• Background supporting M&A, strategic planning, or balance‑sheet optimization.
