Controller (Cannabis Field)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Controller to join our growing cannabis company based in Anaheim, CA. This is a full-time hybrid position responsible for overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, budgeting, cash flow management, and internal controls across multiple business functions.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, highly analytical, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, highly regulated cannabis environment. This individual will play a key leadership role in helping scale financial infrastructure and support executive decision-making.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee all accounting operations including AP, AR, payroll, reconciliations, and general ledger
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes
• Prepare financial statements, forecasts, and executive reporting packages
• Manage budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and financial planning
• Ensure compliance with GAAP standards and cannabis-specific financial regulations
• Oversee cannabis tax compliance including 280E and state/local tax requirements
• Maintain accurate inventory accounting and cost accounting processes
• Coordinate audits and work closely with external CPA firms and tax advisors
• Develop and improve SOPs, accounting workflows, and internal controls
• Support ERP/accounting system implementation and optimization initiatives
• Partner with leadership on strategic planning and operational analysis
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff as the organization grows
• Assist with METRC reconciliation and compliance reporting

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• CPA preferred
• 5+ years of Controller or senior accounting leadership experience
• Cannabis industry experience strongly preferred
• Strong knowledge of inventory accounting, manufacturing, and distribution finance
• Experience with QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, or ERP systems
• Understanding of cannabis compliance and 280E tax structure preferred
• Advanced Excel and financial reporting skills
• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership abilities

Compensation:

• Full-time hybrid schedule
• Based in Anaheim, CA
• Salary range: $100,000 – $150,000 DOE
• Bonus potential available
