Primary Purpose

The Project Manager-Furniture Purchasing & Surplus Inventory oversees the evaluation, procurement, distribution, and lifecycle management of district furniture and fixtures. This role ensures compliance with district standards, optimizes the use of surplus assets, and coordinates logistics across campuses, departments, warehouses, and facilities not covered under new construction warranties.

Minimum of two (2) years of project management experience, including warehouse and inventory management, purchasing processes (from requisition through payment), and inventory management systems

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Procurement & Standards Compliance

  1. Review and evaluate furniture and fixture purchase requests to ensure compliance with district standards.
  2. Recommend compliant alternatives when requested items fall outside established standards.
  3. Coordinate procurement activities with furniture vendors, including ordering, delivery, and issue resolution.
  4. Monitor vendor performance and lead-times to ensure projects are completed within the required timelines.
  5. Conduct cost-benefit analyses to determine when to repair existing assets versus purchasing new equipment.

Inventory & Asset Management

  1. Maintain and utilize warehouse inventory systems to track, allocate, and distribute furniture and fixtures.
  2. Maintain accurate records of purchase orders, warranties, and inventory assets.
  3. Manage surplus inventory, including storage, redistribution, and preparation for auction.
  4. Identify and categorize “obsolete” versus “recyclable” items to maximize the return on surplus sales.

Logistics & Operations

  1. Coordinate with moving vendors to ensure efficient distribution and relocation of furniture across the district.
  2. Plan and manage furniture moves, including scheduling with campuses and district departments.
  3. Oversee the loading and unloading of delivery trucks, ensuring all safety protocols are followed by staff and vendors.
  4. Develop scopes of work for moving, storing, and redistributing surplus furniture

Evaluation & Quality Control

  1. Assess condition of new and surplus furniture to determine usability, repair needs, or disposal eligibility.
  2. Manage and coordinate schedules with district staff including maintenance, custodial, technology, and construction departments as well as the contracted vendors within project scopes.
  3. Conduct final punch-list walk-throughs after major installations to ensure vendor work meets district quality expectations.
