About the Role
As the Accountant, you will be responsible for:
- Processing and recording financial transactions, including accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Reconciling bank statements and completing monthly bank reconciliations
- Tracking fixed assets and preparing depreciation schedules
- Posting and updating journal entries
- Performing regular bank and general ledger reconciliations
- Preparing the trial balance
- Assisting with month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries and supporting schedules
- Preparing various financial reports and statements for internal use as required
- Supporting the external audit process by preparing documentation and responding to auditor inquiries
- Preparing and analyzing internal financial statements, management reports, and supporting documentation
- Managing billing for both the corporate office and approximately 30 franchisees to ensure accurate revenue allocation
- Preparing and submitting quarterly sales tax filings
- Preparing year-end working paper files for auditors
- Preparing payroll information for processing
- Ensuring all reporting deadlines are met, particularly franchisee statements of account due on the 15th of each month
Qualifications
- University degree in Accounting or Business Administration
- Minimum of five years of full-cycle accounting experience
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
- Fluency in French is preferred, with strong English communication skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and QuickBooks
- Experience preparing and processing payroll and working with payroll providers and accountants
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage a high volume of financial data and customer accounts (300+ recurring customers).
- Knowledge of billing systems; experience supporting a franchise business model is considered an asset
- Solid understanding of Canadian sales taxes and experience preparing quarterly tax filings
- Strong communication skills with customers, franchisees, and internal teams
- Ability to analyze and challenge financial information to assess project profitability
- Highly detail-oriented, exceptionally organized, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
