Primary Purpose Of PositionThe Turchin Center for the Visual Arts at Appalachian State University engages visitors from the university, community, nation and beyond in creating unique experiences through dynamic and accessible exhibition, education, outreach and collection programs. These programs inspire and support a lifelong engagement with the visual arts and create opportunities for participants to learn more about themselves and the world around them. The Collections Manager is instrumental to the fulfillment of the Turchin Center’s mission by assuming responsibility for the development, management, intellectual integrity, and care of the center’s Permanent Collection. The role of a Museum Registrar/Collections Manager is critical to the success of the Turchin Center. This position is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the collection and ensuring that it is accessible to researchers and the public. This position also plays a key role in the preservation of the collections, ensuring that objects are stores in appropriate conditions and are handles properly.Minimum QualificationsGraduation from a four-year college or university with a major in the area related to the area of assignment and one year of experience, which demonstrates the attainment of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.Preferred QualificationsTwo to four years of museum registration and/or collections management Master’s degree preferred in Museum Studies, Arts Administration, Art History, Library Science, or other appropriate discipline
