Job Description
Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Reports To: CEO / Managing Director
Location: Vancouver / Greater Vancouver Area (preferred); Toronto / Greater Toronto Area (optional). Primarily in-office with some hybrid flexibility.
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent – Senior Management / Executive.
The Opportunity
The CFO is the senior finance leader, reporting directly to the CEO/Managing Director and partnering closely with the executive team and Board of Directors.
This is a build role. The CFO will own the full financial engine of a growth-stage Industrialized Construction company, including financial planning and analysis, controllership, accounting, treasury and cash management, capital investment and capital partner management, shareholder relationships, and government grants, while building the team, systems, and controls required to support a rapidly growing business.
The successful candidate will have a mandate consisting of two primary objectives:
- Develop and secure the company's short- to medium-term capital platform in support of its vision and three-year strategic plan, personally leading and owning the capital investment strategy.
- Work together with the CEO/Managing Director in all aspects of the company's planning, execution, and deliverables, including the establishment and growth of new manufacturing and production facilities.
Initially, the CFO will operate in a lean, hands-on capacity, working in close partnership with the CEO/Managing Director. This is a rare opportunity to shape both the financial and operational foundation of an innovative, high-growth company from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Own Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) and corporate financial operations. Lead financial planning and budgeting, multi-year forecasting, and the long-range financial model across all business and product divisions, translating strategy into credible, defensible financial goals.
- Own and manage capital raising and investment partnerships, leading fundraising activities including financial modelling, investor materials, data room preparation, due diligence, and capital partner engagement. Ensure the company maintains sufficient capital runway to execute its growth strategy, particularly in capital-intensive growth initiatives.
- Lead and manage relationships with investors, lenders, shareholders, and capital partners, supporting financing activities and ensuring continued access to capital to support the company's growth strategy.
- Oversee the FP&A function and all core accounting operations (currently outsourced), ensuring accurate, timely, GAAP-compliant financial reporting.
- Drive executive decision-making by building and maintaining sophisticated financial models for operations, pricing, product and solution profitability, gross margin evolution, capacity investment, and scenario planning.
- Establish performance frameworks by defining, monitoring, and reporting KPIs and management dashboards that hold the business accountable to plan.
- Prepare Board and committee-ready financial reporting and represent the finance function with clarity and credibility in Board and investor discussions.
Team Build & Leadership
- Operate in a lean, hands-on environment while partnering closely with the CEO/Managing Director to design, build, and scale the finance organization, including its structure, people, systems, and processes as the business grows.
- Act as a strategic business partner to operations, manufacturing, sales, business development, and senior leadership, embedding financial discipline and operational accountability throughout the organization.
Qualifications
- 15+ years of progressive finance experience, including 5+ years in a senior finance leadership role (VP Finance, Finance Director, or CFO) within a growth-oriented organization.
- Demonstrated track record of leading capital raises, securing investment, managing investor, lender, shareholder, and capital partner relationships, and executing financing transactions.
- Proven experience building and scaling finance functions within a growth-stage organization.
- Direct experience in manufacturing, industrial operations, or construction-related environments, with a strong understanding of manufacturing cost structures, supply chain, inventory management, and gross margin drivers.
- Strong FP&A and financial modelling expertise, with the ability to independently build, maintain, and own complex financial models.
- Strong accounting and controllership foundation, including cash flow management, month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, and audit management.
- Demonstrated experience with project-based and contract cost accounting.
- Experience within a growth-stage, venture-backed, or institutionally backed organization that has successfully scaled through financing and manufacturing expansion.
- Exposure to international and multi-geographical operations, including overseas customers.
- CFA, MBA, or equivalent strategic finance credential is considered an asset.
- CPA designation (or equivalent) is required.
