Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)/Senior Pastor (SP), the CFO is responsible for leading, managing, and coordinating treasury operations, investments and investment strategy, funding capitalization strategy, strategic planning, budgeting, and financial modeling.The CFO will possess in-depth knowledge of non-profit financial accounting standards, strategic planning and forecasting models, and complex financing and investment structures.
The CFO must be able to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace. In addition to reporting to the CEO/SP, the CFO will partner with their executive leadership peers and the Zion Board of Trustees to develop and implement strategies across the organization. The CFO will possess excellent leadership, collaboration and influence given their financial oversight of the various business units of the organization.
Essential Duties
Financial Management- Reports to the CEO/SP, executive leadership team and the Zion Board of Trustees on the financial health of the organization, budget, investments, lending, and program operating activities.
- Reports financial results to the CEO/SP, C-Suite, and Board of Trustees. Prepare, analyze, and present weekly financial reports for the organization, its programs, and activities.
- Actively manages cash flow and investments to ensure compliance with the organization’s liquidity covenants and investment strategies while meeting operational needs.
- Arrange financing (debt, equity, bridge loans) and maintain relationships with banks/investors.
- In conjunction with the Chief Accounting Officer, conducts financial due diligence with funders, negotiating covenants, executing contracts and other terms in investment and funding agreements with vendors and collaborative service providers.
Capitalization Strategy
- Develops capital plans for new loan and grant revenue, debt capital, joint financing partnerships, and other sources of capital for the organization.
- Participates in creating diverse capital solutions to expand the scale of financing activities, support the creation of new programs, and real estate initiatives.
- Serves as additional representative to financial partners, including investors, foundation executives, auditors, public officials, etc.
- Develops and utilizes forward-looking, predictive models and activity-based financial analyses to provide insight into Zion’s operations and business plans.
Planning and Analysis
- Coordinates the development and monitoring of Zion Global budgets.
- Forecasts return on investment (ROI)/profitability for current and future programs.
- Develops and utilizes forward-looking, predictive models, and activity-based financial analysis to provide insight into the organization’s operations and business plans.
- Drives annual budgeting process by developing budgets for the organization, its individual programs, and new/proposed/expanded services, including the preparation of budget revisions as needed.
Develops financial business plans and forecasts.
- Creates short, medium, and long-term financial plans and projections; review these plans with the CEO/SP and the Zion Board of Trustees.
- Represent the company to financial partners, including financial institutions, investors, foundation executives, auditors, public officials, etc.
- Knowledge of general accounting and financial reporting procedures in accordance with GAAP.
- Federal and State contract/grant budgeting/reporting procedures and requirements.
- Hands-on experience with accounting and financial management software (e.g. Netsuite/Oracle) and operating systems.
- Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods.
- Previous oversight of human capital and compensation programs and/or policies.
- Expertise in MS Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of AI tools to improve the efficiency of the Finance function.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills
Required Skills and Knowledge- Knowledge of general accounting and financial reporting procedures in accordance with GAAP.

- Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods.

- Knowledge of AI tools to improve the efficiency of the Finance function.
- MBA in Finance is desired but not required from an accredited college or university, or 15+ years of senior management experience preferably in the non-profit financial sector.
- Impact and mission focused with the ability to develop, implement and monitor goals, objectives, programs and strategies which align with Zion’s mission, critical standards and vital signs.
- Experience with an organization that has an operational budget of more than $30 million per year.
- Experience in a senior financial management role, partnering with an executive team and the CEO and the Board of an organization, resulting in the development and implementation of effective financial management strategies and reporting tools.
- Significant experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including sophisticated fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting.
- Experience working with information technology staff or consultants to manage finance and accounting software packages.
- Excellent oral and written communication, facilitation, and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus organizational skills.
- Knowledge and experience in real estate development, housing, and/or business finance.
- History of managing growth and aligning operations to support strategic business priorities.
- Proven track record of problem-solving, resourcefulness, and exceeding set goals.
- Effective planning and deadline orientation to business management and operations.
- Ability to think strategically, anticipate future trends, consequences, and build the organization framework to address dynamic circumstances.
- Strong communication skills, community and client relations and board relations skills.

At the end of the 90 days, performance will be reviewed. Based on management’s judgment, employment may continue as regular status, the probationary period may be extended, or employment may be ended. Completion of the probationary period does not alter the team member’s at-will employment status.
